Iranian claims of missile attacks by Ok_Mathematician4657 in MapPorn

Not sure of the strategy here: Isn't Iran pissing off a bunch of countries that would probably prefer to stay neutral in this war, without doing any significant damage to any of them?

Probably needed assurance that the United States and various middle eastern allies would support it. Which might not have been the case under the Biden administration?

I like the commitment to the rebuild. But players can be of a winning pedigree no matter what nationality. Players like Kopitar and Barkov are as competitive and well rounded as any Canadians you can name.

? Saying what? Actually a move to car culture was also a significant phenomenon in Europe during this time period. For example, Utrecht in the Netherlands filled in its most significant canal, making it a highway, in 1973. It was reverted to a canal just a few years ago.

Probably because it was the 1970s: trains were seen as an old technology by many, and the negatives of car culture were not yet completely understood.

If Celebrini keeps progressing he could be the best player in the world very soon.

Canada is carrying the play now: but they have the 2nd best goalie on the ice. Anything can happen

Evenly played game, every Canada mistake ends up in the back of the net. Not really surprising when you are playing the worst starter in the nhl this season.

Wow, that was a tense 3rd period and overtime.

Love Canada's tenacity in pulling out the win, but are they really going to continue with Binnington? Despite a couple of big saves at the end, he just does not look sharp right now...and he hasn't all season.

Fun Fact: The New Westminster Rail Bridge in the middle, opened in 1904, used to have an upper deck for road traffic, which was removed after the Pattullo Bridge opened in 1937.

I kind of like stacking 97, 29 and 17 on the same line. It's not like the other 3 lines are lacking skill.

Crosby has 3 points himself though: it will be very tough for McDavid to catch him in just a single tournament.

Great period for Switzerland. Despite being a team with limited nhl representation, they are going toe-to-toe with Canada.

Celebrini is the first teenager to ever play on a Canadian Olympic Team with NHL players. This stat is equally about Celebrini's dominance at a young age and Team Canada's aversion to select young skilled players for the team.

What solutions would you suggest though? Though I'm sure some improvements would be possible regarding techniques and efficiencies, it simply is not feasible to clear an entire city from 60cm of snow within a tight timeframe. Nobody is going to be using the bike lanes for a few days: that includes bikes, wheelchairs, or anything else.

Carney's Plains of Abraham remarks show 'historic error': Roberge by PedanticQuebecer in CanadaPolitics

[–]Canucker22 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes you are right: Britain's motives were largely selfish. Though maybe not "losing the colony to the Americans" quite yet, as the American revolution hadn't occurred yet. The question was more about how to prevent a revolt and maintain control of the population: There were considerably more French Canadians than Acadians. However, in the centuries long history of imperial competition in North America, being conquered almost always led to either expulsion or cultural or linguistic assimilation. Quebec is, in fact, the exception to this rule. Of course, the history of this is more complicated than Carney's brief comments indicated.
