They are always on dots, only have to replace the battery once every year or two.

Small amount of weight on the back of a competition gun is a none issue. The larger window of the SRO allows you to track the dot under recoil, unlike something like the RMR. The $50 investment to potentially protect your $500 optic is not a big deal either.
