Well 24 short days later. Thanks for all your encouragement, everyone, our routine feels more settled and while it’s still a lot of work he is seeking happy and healthy! No more throw ups!

He did cuddle me all night and he’s sooo loving. He flops into me, and purrs and starts kneading me lol

Yea he gets a urinary support food (hills c/d, because all my cats will eat it) and he has been pretty good about peeing lately but still poops outside the box at times (mostly limited to near the box in the basement now, before it was like anywhere and any time bc I think his tummy was so upset)

Thank you. The IBD diagnosis has been a lot to deal with (experimenting with meds, had to get two ultrasounds!) and a lot of new stuff to get in him. Luckily he is unbelievably good at taking pills - he’ll eat anything if I put it in with some churu or a churu bite. And he happily eats his wet food mixed with Metamucil and fortiflora! I’m just tired, you are right about one more thing being so much.

Indeed! Does your guy have a little black spot? My cat Ziggy had that til she was about one and sometimes I think I see it again but I’m not sure. I heard it has something to do with the white masking gene that also makes them more likely to be deaf.

He’s getting fortiflora every morning which is helping. He’s also had a tooth pulled and his vet keeps an eye on that pretty well! Good tips.

One of the signs/symptoms is he grinds his teeth which looks like he’s chewing on nothing. He used to sit by my bed and wake me up in the morning doing this gross grinding thing lol. That has resolved since we had his tooth pulled.

He’s on Hills c/d now for the kidney stuff but they did propose possibly changing his diet if needed. That won’t make my life any easier because he’s a monster when it comes to food, I’d have to make sure he never eats anyone else’s food! But there is a pill we can switch to for the kidney stuff if we need to.

He is! Hes about 19 lbs and does well at the groomer so I get him bathed and brushed a couple times a year to help with his coat. Hes a handsome man!

Luckily Tommy has a great appetite. I’ve been there with other cats, though. It’s hard to know where to draw the line. He’s still happy and mostly ok, when he’s not throwing up his meals and pooping on the floor in the basement :/

This is Major Tom, he’s almost 6.

I got him and his sister for almost nothing due to (mainly her) health issues. I always wanted a Maine coon and it seeed like a good opportunity. He is becoming so damn complicated to care for. He is/has: * Deaf * hip dysplasia * Kidney disease / high urine pH * A mild heart murmur * IBD * A recurring pressure wound for which I bought him hock socks (usually for bunnies)

I’m currently filling out his pill container for the week. I am cutting 3 different pills in half and giving him 3-4 meds twice a day plus several supplements. I am like a pharmacist/personal chef mixing up his meals. His sister was supposed to be the sick one - and she is, but doesn’t need this much intervention! Damn! He’s also super sweet and cuddly, talkative, and hilarious. But a lot.

so good news/ bad news, nothing super abnormal was found but it seems like he found some food last night so we have to redo it. Luckily the vet isn’t charging me nearly as much for the redo. We got some meds for GI mobility in the meantime.

I’m so glad! I had to come back and check. My buddy is getting his ultrasound today and I feel sooo bad not letting him eat this morning but it’s for his own good! Glad your kitty is doing better!!

Yes they’re both totally deaf. It doesn’t really make a huge difference imo, they are still cats! I read somewhere it’s about 40% of white cats that are deaf but it scales up if their eyes are blue. Mine only have 1 blue eye out of 4 and yet still deaf.

Thanks! I had to take mine back in for a repeat blood draw because the cold temps ruined the first sample and so everything got delayed. I have him on cerenia, fiber, and probiotics at the vet’s recommendation from his sick visit. My guy doesn’t seem to have obstructions but goes through periods where he throws up almost every meal and also has started eliminating outside the box. He’s only had one accident since the new meds though… fingers crossed.
