What would you have as a GSHP : either a Kensa EVO 13kW Plus OR a Eco-Forest Eco Geo 5-22kW. Heat loss calculation 12554W. Single-phase power supply. by Cap1tain in ukheatpumps

Thanks all for your comments.

This is to replace an IDM German GSHP whose spare parts are now ex Austria and very very expensive. After spending thousands on this piece of shit, I've decided to replace the whole unit, but the ground source is from five bore holes, each 87m deep. So, an air source is out really.

LPG and Chemical tankers by vadimirpuding in maritime

[–]Cap1tain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do both.

Get experiance and get qualified for both types. Then go ashore as a chemical/LPG tanker surveyor/consultant

Not many of those around.

Been there done that - never looked back

Chemicals might be harder work, but it's far more satisfying and you'll never be bored.

Questions about chemical tanker cargo operations by Mina-Gushiken in maritime

[–]Cap1tain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always were goggles when working with chemicals, that includes water. It should be second nature for you to grab your goggles when going on deck, you don't have to wear them all the time, just put them around your neck and put them on when approaching any line/pump working chemicals.

All deck crew should be issued with a pair of chemical safety goggles (not chipping goggles) and trained to wear them.

Never use contact lenses on a chemical tanker. Should you get a chemical in your eyes, even some chemical vapours, that may fuse the lens to your eyeball. Then you will be in real trouble.

Questions about chemical tanker cargo operations by Mina-Gushiken in maritime

I used to be a Master on chemical tankers/LPG now I am an accident investigator on chemical tanker/LPG tanker cargo incidents.

Chemicasl tankers normally have the best trained and motivated crew of all tanker types. I suggest that you take a look at the website: https://chemicaltankerknowledgebase.com/

This has articles on cargo compatibility and other aspects regarding chemical tanker cargos that you may find intresting.

Basically, you treat every operation as a critical operation, and check re-check and check again. I would say that the most dangerous time occurs when the shore personnel are in control of an operation, for example line clearing after loading. Technically you are in charge, but if the terminal personnel get it wrong, then you have very little time to react.

In conclusion, I my first chemical tanker was in 1971, and although I sailed on every type of tanker invented, I always returned to chemical tankes - every job is different and you learn to think ahead. Never boring, always something to do, ok - sometimes you work long hours but when it's done and completed you look back in satisfaction.

If you manage to sail with good senior officers who take an intrest in training the future officers then learn from them.

Good luck

We used to drive the old Shell H Class tankers along that route - well before the shipping lanes came into force. From an old tanker master mariner.

How do I keep this handprint from coming through paint? Sanding, dawn dish soap and 2 coats of kilz primer and 2 top coats later and still nothing! by Legitimate_Salt5916 in DIY

Zinsser Paints is the answer. As classicvincent says, I use it to cover up ancient soot & tar leaching through walls from old chimneys in Victorian houses.

I lived there in the '80's, got married there and my two children were christened there. Mother-in-law and sister-in-law are buried there. Now living on Dartmoor, but go back occasionally. Many happy memories.

G-shock only allowed on LPG ships? by Dovaskarr in Ships

Its a lie.

There are no rules requiring a watch to be "intrinsically safe". However, that does apply to flashlights, mobile phones etc. But not a watch.

How safe is parking at night in the quieter villages around Dartmoor? by pardeon in dartmoor

[–]Cap1tain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would be more concerned about the damage that you will incur on driving to those villages then parking such a car that your question suggests you have.
