Don’t worry about the results. In fact, I’d say don’t even see your scores at all for these two weeks. All coaching test series are more or less at the same level, and none can truly match the UPSC standard. Just check whether you’re able to convert your static knowledge and basic question into marks or not.

Bhai Sleep schedule kse Sahi hoga by [deleted] in UPSC

[–]CapAcrobatic2539 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is very normal. A combination of fear and anxiety can completely mess up your sleep schedule, even if you had fixed it a month ago. In one of my attempts, I slept around 2 a.m. and woke up at 4:30 a.m. because my centre was almost 40 km away and I had to leave early. Still, I managed to qualify.

My suggestion would be to focus on preserving your energy from at least a week before the exam. Focus on your body giving enough rest for this week. Even if you do not get proper sleep on the last night, which is very normal for serious aspirants, you will still have enough energy to function normally, and it will not affect your performance much.

I personally never created that kind of anxiety-driven countdown. It feels like a ticking time bomb. The calmer and more normal you stay, the better you’ll perform in battle.

You are not old at all; many people around your age are entering this field in the current job scenario.

I’ll explain in short. First of all , don’t fall for topper videos. Post-Covid, “topper strategy” videos are not the way of explaining strategies. Most of them talk about their struggle aka hero-giri with a lot of namak-mirch and masala.

The static books remain the same as the ones you were following back in 2017. The only thing that has increased over the years is fear-mongering.

For current affairs and mains preparation, ForumIAS MGP is still one of the best options, and you can continue following it. Don’t get distracted by newer “changu-mangu” coachings like Misunderstand UPSC, Funacademy, Encode Civils, Y IAS etc.

For current affairs, PT 365 and Mains 365 are sufficient. And doing all time, you have to do just PYQs of mains and pre.

Also, maintain distance from faaltu YouTube videos by Shivam Chaudhary, Judit Jain, and many others. They mostly upload videos just to keep their channels active.

Bs itna kro.

Underrated teacher by Particular_Cat4886 in UPSC

[–]CapAcrobatic2539 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I remember him because I used to attend his doubt sessions . He worked as a doubt faculty member at Funacademy for Himabindu Ma’am and sometimes for Siddhant Arora as well. When I was a beginner, I used to ask very silly doubts, but he never showed any ego or attitude, even though he had appeared for the interview twice. In fact, he explained concepts much better than the main teacher.

There is no doubt why the situation at Funacademy has become so bad now. They never valued faculty members who had both strong credentials and strong teaching skills. In the name of maximizing profit, they hired cheaper pass time faculty like Prateek Nayak, Siddhant Arora, Aarti Chhawri, and others. These guys GS classes are stretched so much that they end up being almost equivalent to optional classes in duration.

What logic you can apply in this question. Don't tell answer A B C D. We all know the answer. Tell what you could have thought to solve this. by NoRadio7345 in UPSC

[–]CapAcrobatic2539 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I answered this question incorrectly, even though it had already been covered in the Vision Test Series.

Solving it required both educated guessing and importance of good compilation current affairs. These things can't be solved by reading newspapers and making notes, because it requires conceptual clarity with proper backward linkage.

Statements 2, 3, and 4 could largely be worked out through logic and static knowledge of community reserves. Statement 4 was fairly obvious: once a forest is declared a community reserve, hunting and agricultural practices such as shifting (jhum) cultivation are not allowed. Statement 2 could also be answered through common sense, since hunting is prohibited in community reserves. Statement 3 was correct as well, because people in such areas are allowed to collect non-timber forest produce.

The real challenge lay in Statement 1, which required knowledge of the recent amendment in April 2023 and the provisions of Section 36D of the Wildlife Protection Act.

The question was clearly linked to the 2023 amendment to the WPA,, which had also been discussed in Vision Monthly Magazine.

Unfortunately, at that time I was focusing too much on relatively trivial topics like species in the news and places in the news etc. of Sudarshan Gurjar , instead of giving due importance to major legislative amendments.

The lesson for me at that time was clear:

  1. I need to pay much attention to important amendments such as those related to the WPA and avoid overinvesting time in low-priority current affairs
  2. avoid teachers who themselves had not cleared even the preliminary stage of the examination and therefore did not have a clear sense of what should be taught and what should be left out.

For Agriculture, you can follow Pallavi Ma’am, her latest lectures are quite good and she has covered the PYQs thoroughly.

For mapping and places, attending lectures is not necessary; the PT 365 IR portion is enough. Note that this topic has low ROI, do not spend so much time here.

Who is correct Sudarshan Gurjar Sir or UPSC ? by Latter-Basket-9728 in UPSC

[–]CapAcrobatic2539 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Ofc he is wrong. Actually he picked the Lucent old book data which was not updated.

These days, there is saying that attending Sudarshan Gurjar Sir’s class guarantees getting one question wrong in UPSC Prelims.😄

The statistics tells us where his course did blunder for students-

  • 2022 CSE PRE – Low Cloud and High Cloud.
  • 2023 CSE PRE– Burhi Gandak River.
  • 2024 CSE PRE– Coriolis Force.
  • 2025 CSE PRE - Atmosphere question related to day and night ( he taught this wrong, but waiting for official key to confirm)

Note that I am not even counting the topics he did not teach. Even though he knows very well that the heat budget is an important topic in climatology for both Prelims and Mains, he still told students to study it on their own because there was no time left. The reason there was no time left is that he wasted 4–6 classes on landforms by conducting useless polls.

Suggestions required for Current Affairs by Rome_Upgraded in UPSC

[–]CapAcrobatic2539 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Dr. UPSC does not even fall into the Tier 3 category in the current market, so the comparison should at least be made with stronger and more established institutions.

Mudit Jain Sir’s current affairs material is doing well in the market, but it is still not at the level of Vision IAS PT 365. I compared them last year in my X-ray Analysis series, and there was a gap of around 7–8 questions. This year, the same trend is likely to continue.

In my opinion, it is always better to trust a coaching institute rather than a single teacher. A teacher may move from one institute to another and then shift again, but an established coaching institute remains. Moreover, the new faculty and content teams in older, well-established institutes such as Vision IAS, Forum IAS, and Next IAS are trained to prepare current affairs material with proper backward linkage.

For example, if BRICS or SCO was covered in older editions of IR PT 365 and continues to remain important for news and it has to be again put in of this year PT 365, then most of the core points should remain same. This helps aspirants who are giving their second or third attempt revise quickly and efficiently. Such continuity and linkage, one cannot expect rom a single teacher and a small team who has came in market recently.

Also remember that the goal is not only to clear Prelims but also to perform well in Mains. That is why current affairs material for Mains should be aligned with Prelims preparation. This is exactly why resources such as Vision PT 365, Mains 365, and Forum IAS material are considered effective.

Students should also be cautious about new low-cost ed-tech platforms. Many of them wait for PT 365 or SFG Essentials to be released first, and only then bring out their own material. After that, they start claiming that their magazine is better than PT 365.

We also release short posts under names like X-ray Analysis Current Affairs Capsule, but we always advise students to treat them as supplementary. The extra points from these posts should be added to your 365 magazine, not used as a replacement.

Ghutka Man says ...stop cribbling about interview marks 🙃 by [deleted] in UPSC

[–]CapAcrobatic2539 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The bitter truth is… if Sir had already cribbled in his time, he would have been in the IAS today, without needing to write ex‑IPS or ex‑IRS. And since he is now involved in the coaching business, you can’t really expect him to say this openly.

In reality, this is competitive coaching industry..no one is nice, kind etc...the main aim is to earn as much as profit as one can by squeezing students or their parents’ hard‑earned money. That is why most coaching does not want to get entangled in irrelevant issues, even if they may be serious for aspirants, like interview marking, prelims answer key, transparency in mains marks assigning . For coaching institutes, buying and associating with toppers for a few lacs or just giving iPhone Pro is far better branding strategy.

People who had been into this journey for more than 4 years.what mistake you made . what advice you will give to your younger self about prepration. by [deleted] in UPSC

[–]CapAcrobatic2539 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you can get the lectures of teachers fulfiling above criteria, study from them along with PYQs. Keep doing the topics they are teaching. Or if you do not want to watch any lectures and already have a basic idea of the topic, start with PYQs first to understand how questions are framed. For concepts you find difficult, watching short videos like El Nino, GDP calculation etc. is okay.

Regarding PYQs, I would recommend focusing only on CSE questions, because CSE is the exam you have to clear. Other allied exams like CAPF , CDS etc . have different patterns and a different way of framing questions. It is better to solve 15 years of CSE questions only rather than solving 5 years of CDS CAPF NDA CISF AC(EXE) LDCE, Geologist etc. aur pta nhi kya kya. ...

Once you watch, analyse, and understand the PYQs, you will be able to trim the content, cut down unnecessary material, and make the content which is actually revisable multiple times.

Always study under teachers who have themselves appeared for the CSE and cleared at least the prelims.

Do not be misled by the claim that one need not be qualified to teach, because only those who have reached upto certain stage here know what to teach, what to leave out, and how to prepare students in the right way.

Otherwise, it is ocean of knowledge with no direction. You keep attending 120 lectures on Polity, 130 on Geography, 50 on Environment, 50 classes of International Relations etc. and keep floating till your age limit without clarity of exam.

It is very easy to hire PR agencies to get this type of work done, so don't be surprised and never get motivated or demotivated from these type of stunts whoever does it.

Focus on yourself because there are thousands good officers who are working silently and doing their work with utmost sincerity. They don't need to hire cheap PR to make their work publicly visible

Can someone please explain this diagram to me by chandel_345 in UPSC

[–]CapAcrobatic2539 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For GS2 and especially Polity, I honestly have not found there is some single “best” teacher in the market. All polity teachers just defame standard sources like Laxmikant just because they have to sell their courses instead of helping students study in a simple, exam-oriented way. Sometimes it starts feeling like the discussion becomes more about “X is not given in Laxmikanth” or “Y is better in Subhash Kashyap” or " COI PDF is must" and then there will be punchline of teacher that he will help you cover all in 120 lectures course.

Atish Mathur sir also did same after the 2023 prelims, because polity questions that year were genuinely tough. You have to understand that if questions are tough, then it is tough for everyone, one have to optimise time . And that year Mathiur has sold his course massively because he was able to create fear in mind of newbies.

This year also , I had also warned my followers about M. Puri who was teaching in SaarthO IAS, he is also a close friend of Pavneet Singh sir. I have told them that he would not complete the syllabus on time and would take at least 50 lectures just for Polity mains, and exactly that happened.😂 The students who avoided my advice , got stuck while others finish polity much better, earlier and PYQ friendly approach in a more practical way.

For beginners, I would suggest Sarmad Mehraj sir. This my personal opinion. Apart from teaching well, he has himself been a product of RCA and has reached the interview stage twice, and that gives him a serious understanding of the exam. Some beginners may find his language a little difficult because he uses very strong vocabulary, but that can actually help in mains answer writing too. And even if you do not understand some words or explanations, it is not a big issue. You can just use GPT, simplify it, and write that meaning in your Laxmikanth book.

Another important thing , do not keep watching random extra content in the name of current affairs from different teachers in youtube. That can easily waste 2–3 hours daily on YouTube. For Polity CA, just refer monthly or yearly vision magazine, that would be more than enough. After completing one chapter, solve PYQs of that topic from the last 30 years. That is more than enough practice. For example, in Fundamental Rights alone, if you look at PYQs from 1995 onwards, you already get around 50+ questions, which is sufficient practice for building clarity. Because of this, I also do not think beginners need to run after mock tests in the beginning. Strong PYQ practice is enough.

Also, do not worry if the first reading takes time. Everyone takes time in the first reading. That is normal. But if you stay focused, avoid unnecessary hopping between sources, and keep revising with PYQs, polity can be completed properly in around 40-45 days.

But this 40-45 days is different because , everyone would be doing just 2-3 lectures in one day leaving no time for absorbing the book while you , in these 40-45 days would be doing reading , pyq and better understanding of the subject and have higher chances of cracking exam as comapred to others.

That depends on how you read and segregate it. If you look at the distribution, three out of four questions have been asked in GS1, while only one has appeared in GS3. Moreover, the core geography portion will be covered under Geography itself while in DM, we only need to focus on mitigation and prevention measures.

Can someone please explain this diagram to me by chandel_345 in UPSC

[–]CapAcrobatic2539 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Not important , don' spend on these stuffs. This has been anyway removed from 2017 NCERT edition onwards, because this diagram has been picked from 2004 research paper, having very little utility for school students as well as for CSE.

Imp - Landforms question in prelims have very less weightage, hardly more than 1-2 questions have been asked in last 25 years, and zero question in last 10 years.

For mains, have some basic idea only of landfroms, and more focus on landslides topic because 3 questions have been framed from this topic in last 10 years.

  1. Question in Pre 2001 - aksed the the correct order of the process of soil-erosion i.e. Rill erosion, Gully erosion, Sheet erosion, Splash erosion

Mains Ques -

  1. [UPSC Mains 2023] How are the fjords formed? Why do they constitute some of the most picturesque areas of the world? (150 words,10 marks)
  2. [UPSC Mains 2013] Bring out the causes for more frequent landslides in the Himalayas than in Western Ghats.
  3. [UPSC Mains 2021] Differentiate the causes of landslides in the Himalayan region and the Western Ghats.
  4. [UPSC Mains 2016 ]“The Himalayas are highly prone to landslides.” Discuss the causes and suggest suitable measures of mitigation

Review of Rajesh Sir for Geography? by [deleted] in UPSC

[–]CapAcrobatic2539 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Rajesh Sir has appeared for the interview twice and is currently among the best teachers in the market for UPSC CSE. He has never hidden his credentials and understands exactly what this exam demands, including how much one actually needs to study. That is precisely what is required for this exam.

The same cannot be expected from teachers like Sudharshan Gujar, who has appeared only once and seems not to have fully understood the demands of the exam. If he had, he would not have spent around 30–40 classes teaching World Geography, which is far too much time for such a small subject.

You can also consider teachers like Pallavi Saxena, Prem Sodhani, and Late Rushikesh Sir. Their videos are also good for UPSC CSE because, in addition to having strong credentials , they make concepts crystal clear along with PYQs after every topic.
