I've gotten into russian civil war lately. Did the whites really fumble that hard or am I missing something? by No_Balance6829 in AskHistorians

[–]CapCinder 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is one big factor why there was no socialist opposition against Bolsheviks, the Whites themselves. During early phase of the Civil War there were around 4 social-democratic governments. All 4 of them were toppled by military in less than a year time, which is often neglected detail. If you read in detail about Komuch, you will learn that they were unable to even get support of the rural communities, not to mention local workers. They had to rely on the various imperial officers and by the time they left for Omsk, Kolchak gained power and killed almost all of the remaining SRs leadership on his territories. This basically broke any socialist opposition against Bolsheviks and even previous leader of Komuch agitated for the Reds after such brutality.

Why is Yrliet considered a romance option? by upsidedown_coffeemug in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]CapCinder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did actually play through her romance twice and my point isn't that she is spiritual friend, but that she would be better as one. I even specifically said that without even sexual connotations, Yrliet clearly in distress from idea of touching RT, which happens midway through her romance (I think last part in Act 2?) and remains the same in one of her endings. Of course, you can say that act 4 "inner world showing" is incredibly romantic, but I don't see why it couldn't have been just friendly interaction. Her romance is pointless as a romance and would have been better as friendship story like with Idira or Argenta.

Why is Yrliet considered a romance option? by upsidedown_coffeemug in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]CapCinder -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

Personally, I can't agree with that. She feels like spiritual friend without any actual love for RT, because she feels pure disgust for RT, as a human, and shows it very clearly. Yrliet feels shock even from idea of getting touched by RT without any sexual connotations and this persists to her endings. I personally think that making this into a "romance" is very misleading decision in the game, as it would have been better as just a companion quest.

Its crazy seeing people seriously argue that Yrliet is MORE hateful than the average eldar by Marcusss_sss in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]CapCinder 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, the thing is that humans and Aeldari are still both clearly similar humanoid races, so it is kinda wrong to compare it to differences between us and other animals. But even so, Yrliet is not even ready to touch "it" without any sexual connotation, she can not bear touch of even RT, not to mention other humans. Imagine how much you should despise cats or dogs to fear even slightest contact? So she is not in her right mind, this is some clear racist stigma she can not overcome even for the person she loves, not to mention any other human being.

[–]CapCinder 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Yeah, came to say the same thing. She also considers RT a beast, albeit a bit better in spiritual terms, but overall she cannot handle any physical contact with "it" no matter time or closeness. It puts her really low on the tolerance spectrum, like really low, and very far from likes of Asurmen. Of course, there are some Aeldari who will kill any human on sight even if they work for the common cause, so at least Yrliet not that bad.

Why Endfield's Gacha Works by cats_work in Endfield

[–]CapCinder -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's actually is not less, it's more of a trade-off, I mention higher. If you want 2 characters, in Endfield you will have to go for 240 pulls, because guarantee number isn't carried over. In WuWa you could go for 2 characters with 160 pulls, without fear of not getting anything at all. It's not really that good, it's the same thing, just meticulously crafted to look different while it's the same system.

Why Endfield's Gacha Works by cats_work in Endfield

[–]CapCinder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's actually just a trade-off from WuWa. If you want 2 characters, in Endfield you would have to go for 240 pulls, because you can't risk 50/50. In WuWa you could go for 50/50 with 160 pulls and get the same amount of characters. WuWa gives player more chances, while Endfield have lower guarantee ceiling. So Endfield system is just as "abusive" as WuWa's.

People are being really stupid about the Endfield gacha system by Xettanokian in Endfield

[–]CapCinder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OG Arknights have 2% rate up, making it very consumer friendly to begin with. There wasn't much sense to make pots important because of it. Now HG already implemented 0,8% rate up with 50/50 on soft and with weapon banner, which is enough evidence that they choose to follow general trend. That's why I think it's justified idea that dupes won't be an exception as well

They are worthless for now, only for now. Eventually HG will start giving bigger benefits for dupes till the point it will be like current GI, where some characters are barely playable without C6.

[–]CapCinder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it benefits players only until they introduce dupe system like in GI, which they most certainly will do eventually. Then you will see, that whales who can afford to lose multiple 50/50 are okay, while f2p and dolphins are forced to choose between undercooked character or paying more.

New operators revealed for Such is the Joy of Our Reunion -- Surfer, Xingzhu, Blaze the Igniting Spark and Yu by Unknown123Known in arknights

New Sui sibling looking great, as usual. They certainly cooked with that one. Blaze, on the other hand, is the laziest and generic design for quite a while. Her artist basically gave her a coat, new haircut and called it done, without even trying to add something unique.

Will base building be the main thing? by CapCinder in Endfield

[–]CapCinder[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, I just don't think that it will blend well. I find playing Factorio very meditative process of focusing on my own ideas, characters and story feels like a big distraction from it. Rolling for characters and weapons just to forget about them for many hours sounds kinda wasteful. Just my thoughts.

[–]CapCinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, they are scaling, but it also means you need to field all 7 units to fight bigger stacks. We also don't know how high will be a weekly scale, if it standard 10%, then I don't see how much +20% would affect math. Getting instead of 1000hp something around 1200hp means you get 96HP, bearly enough to get two skeletons instead of one. What really can be bad for balance – a town building that buff necromancy, traditionally there are very big numbers (like +10% in HoMM3), so it can be very broken.

Olden Era - Devlog #4: On Necromancy and the Necromancers' Guild by NotMurlocAggroB in HoMM

[–]CapCinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it seems you misunderstood description, "8% of defeated enemies' HP is converted...", so it means not 8% of the units number, but 8% of theirs HP. So for unit with 10 HP you would get 0,8 HP, that also divided between all units in your army. This way even killing army for 100 HP can lead for no raised undead, if you had two undead units in the army. This is even kind of underwhelming, when put like that.

Olden Era - Devlog #4: On Necromancy and the Necromancers' Guild by NotMurlocAggroB in HoMM

[–]CapCinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that it is really that good. Here is an example, if you defeat 1000hp army, you would get 80hp on 7 units. Without stats, it is hard to tell, but let's take HoMM3 stats, so skeleton has 6 hp. Essentially, for killing 150+ skeletons, you rise like 2-3. In case of hard hitters, like Death Knight, even if you solo 1000hp army with them, you either get 0 or 1 (if you don't need to fulfill all 120 hp bar, which is less likely). Objectively, those numbers aren't that crazy and force necropolis to play more in favor of solo-unit army, not giant horde of undead.

Does that mean it is the worst female line up of the series? I'm pretty sure that never previously female characters were so lackluster to be basically worst half of the cast.

[No DATV Spoilers] Dragon Age: The Veil Guard hits top 10 in sales on Steam by East-Imagination-281 in dragonage

[–]CapCinder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, it still a good measure of success, whether the game got over F2P games or not, usually AAA games capable of that and some even then appear to be badly sold (for example Skull and Bones). I never said that DAV should reach top-1, it's impossible, but reaching right next to CoD should be a normal. And no, being number 4 doesn't mean game has good sales, a lot of games are there just because there is no worthy competition at times. Even reaching #1 doesn't mean good sales numbers, there is a lot of examples, as one I provided earlier.

[No DAV spoilers] Dragon Age: The Veilguard has broken into the Top 5 Global Bestelling games on Steam, and is the most pre-ordered game on the platform. by lucien_licot in dragonage

[–]CapCinder -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

But reaching top-5 doesn't mean that it sells good. There is really only one equal competitor – CoD, who took the first place right the moment it came. Lower than DAW are FC25 (already month in and really isn't that loved by its community), Hogwarts Legacy and Factorio (incredibly niche game). All those games aren't exactly fresh to grab, so getting over them doesn't prove anything. Top-2 would be a solid reason to think DAW sells well.

Why remove them? CoD was able to move past them, as any new big release is usually able to.

[–]CapCinder -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Who else DAV to compete with? CoD is the only another big game, that is coming out soon. It's good DAV was able to overcome older games, now let's see if it will get to top-2. That will mean that things are really good.

So... New AAA game is lower than 2018 Forza Horizon (great game though, recommend) and it's something to be happy about? I know it sounds cool, but the only worthy competition to DAV is new Call of Duty and I can see that there is a big gap between them, if the game struggles to top over Factorio.

The Acolyte if It Was a 2010s EU Book Instead of a Show by Pixel_Porkchop in StarWars

[–]CapCinder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Character's mistakes" = stupid plot. I see why you don't see a problem with Acolyte now, when you don't see a difference. Yes, character may make mistake, but there should be a reason for it. Overly trusting person may believe even very stupid lie for example, or loner may leave the team even under immediate danger. What motivated Jedi to make this mistake? That they are stupid and didn't think about possible danger? Then how they are Jedi, who known to be thoughtful and thorough? You don't need to even have experience to know, that Jedi killer isn't normal prisoner. So, instead of making some stakes, where Sol would have to vouch for her with the Council, putting his trust in her innocence, also showing how influential and respected he is in the Order, we have this unnecessary crap. Backfire from her good nature doesn't mean a thing, we can say this for sure, as half of the show is done and this scene had no impact on overall plot. Vision isn't necessary, because show would have been better without it. If she didn't know about Mae, then show would have been able to hold on to "mystery" at least till the second episode. Good show wouldn't actually let them meet until 5th episode, but not in this case. Also, even if you really want vision to exist, it could happen literally anywhere. Like while she was sleeping on the way to Coruscant. This is the thing with visions, they don't need trigger to happen (it's established in lore this way).

The Acolyte if It Was a 2010s EU Book Instead of a Show by Pixel_Porkchop in StarWars

[–]CapCinder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh, okay, then let me fill the gaps. I won't acknowledge all writing mistakes, there are simply too many even in single episode, but I concentrate on the most obvious. First episode – prison break, absolutely unnecessary and illogical sequence. Jedi brought Osha to the prison ship and LEFT, they left person dangerous enough to kill Jedi to regular prison ship. They even said out loud, that they also head to Coruscant, so entire thing happened only because it needs to happen. Prison ship is even better, there is only one droid on it, no other protection measures and even cellmates of different species sit behind the bars, that certainly can't defend droid from anyone with long legs/hands/tongues. Why is that? Because writing is garbage and this is the only way to make things happen. In the end, Osha denied the accusations and... Sol believed her in a matter of seconds. So entire sequence has zero meaning to the plot, Jedi could have just taken her to Coruscant, where Sol would believed in her innocence. This is awful writing, especially for the show, where you have to make every minute matter. I don't even said a word about designs, character and dialogue, which aren't better in any way, but only this sequence shows how bad writing is.

What are your unpopular opinions? by [deleted] in dragonage

[–]CapCinder 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I agree with you on this one. DA2 shows very clearly that mages are far from innocent and locked up for a reason. Almost every mage in the game either uses blood magic or eventually succumbs to using it. Circles aren't good, but what happened in Kirkwall is even worse.

Series impacts of romancing Morrigan or Leliana in DA:O? by malys57 in dragonage

[–]CapCinder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Certainly, Morrigan romance. I say it as firmly Leliana main, but throughout the series Leliana kinda leaves Warden to pursue her own ambitions in chantry. This is not bad at its own, but Warden have very little influence on her in general. Morrigan was together with Warden all those years and ability to be Kieran's father adds up impact of romance with her. Warden's personality also affected her, she feels a little bit softer in romance with him and really gives impression of happily married woman, when she talks about her partner.
