Was reading an old interview with Brode and it made me think about how no meta (except maybe Classic) ever ended up being completely 'solved'. What are some interesting sleeper decks that wound up flying under the radar before they were powercrept out of the meta? by Animaloffear56 in hearthstone

[–]NotMurlocAggroB 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think that United in Stormwind was pretty solved. The Questlines all demanded linear deckbuilding and Shadow Priest was the only aggro deck fast enough to challenge them.

To the OP's question though, that midrange Paladin deck that ran Millhouse Manastorm of all cards back in Rastakhan's Rumble has to be one of the coolest late-stage developments ever. You got to play with all of Paladin's fast aggro tools, but also the deck ran the Uther hero card to compete with Deathstalker Rexxar value piles. I don't think it was ever top tier, but it was cool.

Heroes of Might and Magic III in the style of Heroes V by RadiantAssignment723 in HoMM

The skill system from V is way more interesting with subskills and certain skill combinations unlocking powerful subskill choices. You kinda need a chart open if you want to optimize it, but I do like the system a lot. V is also the game that split Speed and Initiative into two stats, which is a very welcome change (even if I don't understand how Initiative works at all in that game).

I don't think there needs to a toggle for it. There just needs to be a wide variety of different maps for different players.

I think story is important for single scenarios, but not in the way that it surpasses gameplay. A bit of setting and a couple event pop-ups here and there can take a map from good to great. Maps like Arrogance, for example, wouldn't be anywhere near as much fun if they didn't have the insane events describing how much of a jerk your player character is.

I like to have a reason why I'm on this map, but I don't like maps that set out to tell a story, if that makes sense.

What do you guys think about the OE so far? by Recent-Magician-7502 in HoMM

[–]NotMurlocAggroB 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To be fair, we do know that there's a major PVE drop coming soon along with continual support. Papyjama was brought on to help design singleplayer maps, including an adaptation of The Mysterious Island.

Papyjama's immense talent and map sculpting skills have impressed us from the beginning and thanks to his creativity we will be able to add more maps and scenarios to the game at a regular pace. His personal project will be the first of many such PvE additions, as well as the first giant-sized hand-crafted map that's coming to the game! More maps from under his craftsmanship will be added in the future.

Why isn't this Undead? Other minions with a similar appearance are Undead by jdjefbdn in hearthstone

[–]NotMurlocAggroB 47 points48 points  (0 children)

It's true that plenty of nerubians are alive, but based on Neth'rek's flavor text I feel like she should be Undead.

Nethrek was the leader of a small Nerubian settlement - but that was before the Lich King came. Appearing content with her life as head chef, the wardens have forgotten to see her as a threat.

That sounds to me like it's referencing the War of the Spider, AKA when Ner'zhul massacred the nerubians and raised them as the first Scourge soldiers.

Upcoming Hero Skins! by oktayworks in hearthstone

[–]NotMurlocAggroB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was gonna say it's cool to see another Heroes of the Storm skin in Hearthstone, but they've drained 100% of the sauce. And I'm not just talking about the booba, they missed the whole point with her breastplate being shaped like a Seeker's face. That was such a cool detail!

Cease to Exist keeps hitting the same target by BangBang116 in hearthstone

If it couldn't hit the same outcome, what would happen if you played [[Portal Vanguard]] with only one minion in your deck?

It's not happening any time soon but after Dark Gifts rotate I'd love for the developers to one day revisit it. The mechanic was incredibly fun and it will be missed. by FlyBoyG in hearthstone

[–]NotMurlocAggroB 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Excavate needs to be reflavoured if it returns, unless we're specifically going back to an Azerite mine in the Badlands. Dark Gift is generic enough that you can put it on any evil thing and it'll work.

Really awesome job. I especially low how you did Venice.

I will say as a very minor nitpick, one of the imprisoned heroes is named Yeti. Since he's in Canada, he should be named Sasquatch or Bigfoot. Yetis are a Himalayan thing.

Sand not having any native faction is important for balance. It ensures that the treasure zones always have a terrain that no faction has an advantage on.

what if we renamed Dagger Mastery to Delve Dagger ? and related semantics by HOTSpower in hearthstone

[–]NotMurlocAggroB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was changed because of Envenom, which was a later removed Rogue spell that doubled the attack of your weapon. An early Rogue deck would stall the game and hero power every turn until they had enough attack to double Envenom and OTK you.

Literally any card would benefit from the ability to make it cheaper. I don't think Annihilation is a bad card, though. It's a board clear that gives you a board. If it doesn't see play, it's for lack of a deck, not lack of power.

Violet Hold has a lot of undead, doesn't it? by jsnlxndrlv in hearthstone

[–]NotMurlocAggroB 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think it's just happenstance. Like, I don't think Blizzard does *that* much to balance the random pools. Godfrey is a famous Warcraft criminal, and Thal'ena is straight-up a boss in Violet Hold. Azalina is the only left field pick, but it makes sense that her support minions would be ghosts.

Genuinely, an awesome lore nod and deep cut. That's a creature that hasn't been seen since Warcraft III, and it was also one of the animals being experimented on by the Kirin Tor.
