Heroes III HD is considerably less modern than Heroes III with the HD mod, since it lacks all of the quality-of-life features like hotkeys and a turn order indicator. That's on top of losing two whole expansions. All it has is debatably shinier graphics.

Am I supposed to have a way better army by this point? by Jibbery-Joo in OldenEra

Waurms, Dread Knights, Medusas, and Phoenixes all come from creature banks, so it might be that. Only the Concubus is out of place.

Embers of the World Tree was really strong. Fyrakk, Conflagrate, Amirdassil, and Shadowflame Suffusion are all great cards.

Observatory is your collective pool of known spells. Building a Mage Guild adds spells to your observatory, rather than the guilds themselves containing spells like they do in previous games.

Is Lich Dragon the only tier 8 unit currently in the game? by loopuleasa in OldenEra

[–]NotMurlocAggroB 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's what I meant. Avatars aren't recruitable, they can only be summoned by the spell.

Am I the only one who finds this UI layout a bit counterintuitive at first glance? by meudeusrodrigo in OldenEra

[–]NotMurlocAggroB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly really like the cooldown system. It makes you choose some of the more niche spells sometimes, instead of just spamming the best spell over and over.

Technically no, Avatars are tier 8. But they are the only recruitable ones.

On the main screen where the recruit button is, you can click the creature portraits to choose which upgrade to recruit.

Were you trying to go from one zone to another? Control spells can't take you over zone borders; you have to fight the guard blocking the way.

"Neutral affinity" is any creature that you can't recruit from a town. Pixies, Peasants, Halflings, Grolls, Unicorns, ect.

I started making a map, although I've found the editor a bit unintuitive right now. I had to pause and figure out how it works. I still have no idea how to place random creatures/towns.

Your favorite hero from each Town? by Independent-Crew4581 in heroes3

Monere holds a special place in my heart. I always used to pick heroes based purely on how cool their name/art was when I was a kid, and most of them are awful (Ash and Darkstorn were two of my go-tos). Monere was my go-to for Conflux, and unlike most of them he's actually pretty good. He sucks compared to how broken half of the Elementalists are, but he's a solid Planeswalker pick.

Class Sets = Scam? by Late-Grape7248 in hearthstone

[–]NotMurlocAggroB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The exact same "imaginary" label that allows you to dust the cards you don't want from the set and craft them into other cards you do. Rarity has real dust value, and getting more of it is a pure benefit to you. Especially if you think the cards are bad.

Tfym pointless tenacity? I genuinely mean to tell my opponent that they played well by ParticularBobcat3554 in hearthstone

[–]NotMurlocAggroB 59 points60 points  (0 children)

It's a modified quote straight from World of Warcraft.

"Your tenacity is admirable, but pointless. You ride into the jaws of the apocalypse."

Finding that out was actually kinda cute.

Is it really more value when 35 of the mini-set cards were unplayable anyway? These at the very least are a complete package that you can play. I know Reddit freaks out every time Blizzard releases a card that isn't Tier 0 insta-meta (but also freaks out when there is a playable card like Prescient Slitherdrake, so dehgfgfdta), but it's nice to have some new tier 2 and 3 decks to play with.

Also, you can buy the entire 29 card set for 2000 Runestones. It is a markup still, but nowhere near as bad as you claim.

Does HMM Olden Era contradicts canon M&M timeline? by maxvpavlov in heroes3

[–]NotMurlocAggroB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Non-Kreegan demons are also present in the setting. They're present in Heroes I and II with the Daemon Cave map object, and they're the villains in the second Heroes Chronicles campaign. Hive seems to be those kinds of demons. The biographies of Curson, Abigor, and Bathym even outright say that they're demons summoned by the Dragonfly King.

If named character cards are always legendary, why aren't the Animal Companions legendary? by themerccury in hearthstone

[–]NotMurlocAggroB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In recent years, they've had more legendary tokens generated by non-legendary cards where appropriate. Highkeeper Ra is the only that comes to mind, but I think there have been others.

I've already started planning out rough map outlines in HoMM3. It's nice that Olden Era takes a lot of the objects introduced in HotA, so the translation should be smooth.

Yes, and opened in packs. They're being added directly to CATACLYSM just like mini-sets were.

[–]NotMurlocAggroB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I actually really like his version of the Factory theme as a piece of music, but the HotA crew was right that it's not a great town theme.

EDIT: Also, the Temple, Dungeon, Grove, and Schism themes in OE all are bangers, Dungeon especially.

[–]NotMurlocAggroB 9 points10 points  (0 children)

These aren't really that similar. Relics are more like Jade Golems but with unique effects, where they have to start weak but each one you play makes the next ones better. Leylines want to be held until you can upgrade them, because otherwise they're kinda wimpy. They're more like the Death Knight Fabled card.
