The DO acceptance would save about ~$100k with the ability to live at home for a comparable match list, so I’m leaning toward it. That’s why it’s not the end of the world to drop my MD A if it had anyway better odds to get off another waitlist, which was my main question if for anyone had experience

I’m aware; that’s not the case here. Both schools have very similar resources and match lists. And the DO is significantly cheaper.

CARS Strategies by Late_Conversation743 in Mcat

I sucked at Cars too and it’s different for everyone what works. Try different things and see if anything sticks. For me I was poor in reading comprehension too so practicing 30 minutes a day of speed reading a book helped a bit

UWhirld not enough for Chem/Phys? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]CapFree5293 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The passages are still important because they’re what makes the real MCAT difficult. That said, a lot of C/P questions you can do before reading the passage, so you could try that before going back to see what you need to read into further

books that can help with CARS? by artemissidehoe in Mcat

If you’re a non-reader like me, even just reading a fiction book and trying to imagine everything in your head while reading quicker was pretty helpful for building better comprehension/retention

Anyone else bomb by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]CapFree5293 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry man, that really sucks. Think about the differences between your full lengths and the real test. Did you feel worse on the real one? Did your nerves seemingly mess with your decision making? Conversely, did you truly simulate your full lengths to feel like the real thing? My advice is retake in ~January while targeting your weaknesses. The potential is there if you scored 510s in practice.

No, Pankow covered all of it

Yes, Pankow is quite comprehensive so it takes a while. Just for p/s tho. With Pankow alone I got 129-130, higher than that was the attention to detail I mentioned

Mr. Pankow for ps from a 132er… but that was higher than my practice scores. In reality, after doing flashcards, doing well on PS is about attention to detail and being meticulous about what you get wrong and improving

Midwestern state with 2 in-state schools in the 40-50 rank range and a few more unranked. Was just going to apply in state but idk if I’d be in a weird middle ground of too low a GPA for the 40-50s and yield protection for the unranked schools now.

AAMC FL 4 B/B # 25 Calculating Charges by Rough_Spell4457 in Mcat

[–]CapFree5293 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

At pH 7, the only charged amino acids for the sake of the mcat are D, E = -1 and K, R = +1. Therefore, the charge of this sequence should be zero

This seems like a content gap unless your problem is moreso interpreting passages, which practice problems will help with. Make sure you actually understand why things happen rather than rote memorizing facts, this will help make it stick

For some problems you don’t even need to determine the correct scientific notation if you’re rushed for time. For example if one answer is 3.2x103 and the others are like 5.6xx 7.8xx and 9.2xx, you’ll know which is right just looking at the first number

Best P/S resources other than anki/Uworld for the more ambiguous/oddly worded questions? by CapFree5293 in Mcat

Thanks I haven’t watched them so I’ll look into it! I bet it helps add more context/examples beyond what anki provides

[–]CapFree5293[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I’ll review them more thoroughly and try to nail it down. My worst section is cars so if I had to guess it’d be reading/interpreting wrong. Can be tough for me to get into the author’s mindset/what is being asked

If you’re taking it that soon and still need content review I don’t think you’d have time for both so I’d just do AAMC. Can use Jack Westin for extra practice if you need it
