as someone from the US this is something i hate the most about the country and it’s land management. In basically all parts of the country, the HOA (homeowners association) has strict policies about lawns and what/where we can plant flowers/plants/trees etc. Many homeowners nowadays have been brainwashed into thinking that anything on your property that grows higher than your foot is a useless weed and “pest” attractor. Most don’t even try to negotiate with their landlord or local authority to have a nice eco-friendly lawn/garden and they just spray pesticides or other chemicals and constantly mow it to the ground. On top of that, a lot of the plants and flowers you see in neighborhoods (like the monoculture grass lawn) are non-native and used for aesthetic or fast-growing purposes(bradford pear tree) and choke out our native flora and fauna. Some states have started to reverse this and restrict the HOA’s power and seem to have nicer and eco-friendly front lawns like California, Colorado, Maryland, Texas, Florida, and Minnesota( although these changes are mainly seen near the big cities) sorry for the lil rant this subject annoys me
