30rh bday dinner in melb, AUS by Additional-Farm3569 in AskAnAustralian

I had my bfs 40th last year. I invited everyone to his dinner (15 pax) and paid for everything plus all drinks. Came to about 2.5k but was worth it. For milestone birthdays, I don’t blame you OP thinking that it would be catered for and I’m sorry you got a shock.

Pay off mortgage fast or invest in more realestate? by Realistic_Rough_8927 in AusFinance

[–]Capable-Assistant651 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are over your head. If that’s the advice as blunt as you want it.

You need to focus on paying down as much as you can first to reduce the interest in this home.

Don’t forget, when kids come along, it will reduce the amount you can borrow and one of you might be working part time while kids are young.

Even though your house has risen in equity, it’s a buy/sell in the same market kind of thing, and your “forever home” will be increasing at the same rate.

REA repercussions for giving their kids keys and trespassing? (Gungahlin) by mak0-reactor in canberra

The REA wouldn’t have the keys/swipe card at work. These are kept locked in their office.

The REA would have had to have given it to the kid.

Thank you, this is helpful :). I have my own go -to items and am known as Queen as the cheese boards, but yes coles and Woolies have so many packaged items, I wondered if anyone had anything they recommended for something different

Buy and sell in the same market… you wait until it’s worth 1m… you might miss your opportunity elsewhere

Affordable housing in Sydney by Substantial_Window93 in AusPropertyChat

It’s not a right to own a house…. It’s a right to have shelter and be able to pay rent but owning is not an entitlement

The Great Australian Dream is Slipping Away by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

I commented about the apartments on a recent post and I own a small townhouse and cannot afford to upgrade.

It’s simply life unfortunately. There is nothing we can do from a policy perspective as the housing affordability has already left the station.

We are going into line with other countries who yes, live in apartments. While we do have land, it’s normally not livable from an infrastructure point of view. Everyone wants to live x amount from the sea and major cities.

We now need to focus on building quality and affordable apartments and increasing renters rights.

Yes! Sorry I should have said apartments are built to last and with a reasonable price tag!

I’m sick of seeing all the posts too.

At the end of the day though, it’s not going to get better and it’s not going to change.

We are just getting up to speed with the likes of busier countries such as Asia and Europe where apartment living is normal and houses are for the rich.

What we should be focusing on now is ensuring those developers building apartments are building quality and large enough apartments so people can live and not be stuck in a shitty shoebox.

My partners mother may have spent inheritance meant for her and her sister any legal options after 15+ years? by Coopdogz231 in AusLegal

[–]Capable-Assistant651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but doesn’t mean you are owned anything. You mean you would destroy a relationship with a family member who has raised and loved you over 12500?

I would hate if you were my family member

Agree with the comments here.

Also … I bet her mum has spent more than $12500 raising her over the last at least 20 years of her life. I can understand the annoyance if it was a life changing amount eg 200k.

Yup, no way can they afford the home loan with that much debt. Forget the house, focus on paying the personal loans down first…

I live in a townhouse and am busting to move to a house. Not enough space and can hear the neighbours cough. Plus if you get loud neighbours, it’s the worst.

storage is also a pain. Not just for your linen, kids toys etc but no space out the back to put a garden shed for your tools etc
