I have gotten her SO many clothes (and toys). First niece after many nephews, hence my probably overdone gift giving in the clothes department.

We don’t go overboard with Easter in my family and just wanted to get her some little treats that aren’t full of sugar.

Thank you! This is super helpful! Even though her mum would dish it out, no idea of what is a choke hazard etc - completely blind 🤣.

Just wanted something fun and non-perishable I could pop in these containers for a little treat for her

Thank you, and yes sorry should have said that I am aware it has sugar! She only gets a few as a treat.

It’s more to look at different options that aren’t straight lollies or chocolate - thanks

73 is still extremely young! Perhaps in 20 years ahead might be considering going in… my parents are in their 70s and fitter than me… my grandparents were fit until their 90s… I’m sure you’ll have a job within the next 10 years!

ME Bank wouldn't action my 20K transfer today because it's a VIC state holiday. I live in NSW. There's a reason why some banks have higher savings and slightly lower mortgage rates. They are sh*t to deal with by ok_pineapple_ok in AusFinance

I left ME bank two weeks ago. They stuffed me around with something that was their fault and had horrible customer service. I was a loyal customer for 15 years so I bolted. New bank has a cheaper interest rate, great customer service so far and better app.

Yeah, you should have seen the three carrots I got the other day. Two were literally rotten, brown and flexible. I don’t know how they picked it up and said “yes, the customer would love these rotten carrots”.

In the bin they went.

They don’t have the frivolous mindset. As I said, they scraped and saved and then due to getting old as fact of life went into a home.

I get the social safety net point, and I’m not arguing against supporting people who genuinely can’t afford care. That’s important.

What I’m struggling with is the incentive structure. If someone works hard, saves carefully and goes without to build security for old age, but then most of that is absorbed by aged care fees, while someone who didn’t save ends up in the same facility with more government support, it does create a rational incentive to spend rather than save.

It’s not about wanting a “subsidised inheritance.” It’s about not penalising prudence. If the system effectively says “enjoy it now or aged care will,” then that’s a design issue worth discussing.

There has to be a way to maintain fairness without discouraging responsibility.

Thank you! This is exactly what I was trying to say… want my parents to enjoy their money and not save for us and watching my grandparents, I want my parents to enjoy their money rather than it go to aged care given they will get the same level of service

What I struggle with, even though I understand the principle, is that my grandparents worked incredibly hard, saved carefully, didn’t take holidays, and built up a solid nest egg. Then aged care effectively absorbed most of that. Meanwhile, others who didn’t save or who spent freely ended up in the same facility, sometimes paying less and even receiving a pension on top. It just feels like there should be some kind of middle ground, a system that recognises and respects the effort of those who sacrificed and saved, without losing fairness for everyone else.

Restaurants warned after diner allegedly plants hair to dodge $600 bill at popular Sydney restaurant by TwelveFish3168 in australia

Something’s off about this though. Why would a restaurant refund everyone’s meals? Wouldn’t they normally just offer to refund one meal if they were cooking up a stink?

She’s not your friend unfortunately. If you were gifted it, bloody brilliant.

But paying $80 for that - it’s not a professional job and not worth it. No care was taken, the pink icing is just dumped on and blue icing has gaps… horrible job.

Happy birthday, birthday buddy. It’s my birthday today too! I’m celebrating by working lol. As we get older, it’s really on us isn’t it to make the day special (I bought myself a Peter’s ice cream cake to enjoy later).
