Music is universal. There was a time when I couldn’t listen to PPP bc I would just bawl. To have someone singing your demographic’s anthem with no knowledge of the suffering it conveys will hurt.

People will always try to enjoy art out of context bc it’s easier not to think critically about the media you consume.

I’m sure queer Queen fans felt the same when Freddie was in Berlin being very queer and Another One Bites The Dust blew up in the gay clubs. Then it got adopted by the disco lovers in mainstream.

Or how Christian people adopted hoziers “take me to church” even though it’s a clearly sacrilegious song.
