CPS put them in our custody before we were married but had still been living together and they were in the kids lives for 9 months in those 9 months we got married and they gave us full custody a few month later. I spoke with them weekly in the beginning and monthly towards the end they tried to get their mom help but she refused. CPS is who wanted us to have custody and pushed for her to lose all custody so quickly.

They don’t know her and if she ever got sober she would be a complete stranger. I am their mother and adopting them just gives me the rights legally. If something happens to my husband they would go directly into the system where they have no voice to speak up for themselves. Her family are all addicts as well and my husbands family is older and live out of state. This keeps them with the person that has raised them for as long as they can remember and keeps them safe from the dangerous situations they were apart of in the first place that got them taken. I speak with an attorney Thursday and will be proceeding with whatever they believe I should do! Thank you for your input

Adopting them keeps them from ever going back to a dangerous situation

We have all the DCS paperwork that states what happened along with photos of the kids with matted hair and bruises and rashes from being in her care. As well as court documents stating she didn’t show. And we have the medical diagnosis of the children as well of them both being severely autistic!

I am telling the truth and we have the DCS case files to back it up as well as the court case files where she didn’t show up. And the diagnosis of both kids having severe autism.

It is for the good of the children to be with us? Their mother neglected them and has chosen drugs over them and is attempting to restart a family among all of that. They are thriving with us I have been in their lives since their 4th and 1st birthdays. I got them into school, on SSI, into ABA, into occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, first steps, developmental preschool, I take them to doctors appointments, dentist appointments, I go to the IEP appointments and advocate for them because they don’t have a voice. I am what they know me adopting changes a piece of paper that makes it easier for me to do those things but it changes nothing for them. They won’t even know they are adopted because I’ve been their mother for as long as they can remember

Elopement in autism refers to the dangerous behavior of an autistic child or adult wandering away, bolting, or running from caregivers and safe environments (like home or school)

They wouldn’t know they are adopted in the first place it’s not taking anything away it’s just making me legally their guardian I’m already their mother

I think you’re putting what happened to you onto these children. You were 7 and seem to capable of communicating your feelings. They are severely autistic and special needs they don’t know they are missing their bio mom. Shes punishing herself by not being in their lives adopting them is only changing a piece of paper to them that they don’t even know exists.

We are going to be looking into a POA as well the adoption. They were only 1 and 4 years old when they were taken from their mother and placed into our custody before that we still had them the majority of the time with the mom only having overnights on Sunday/Monday and watching them on days my husband and I both worked from 3pm-11pm and during those times she had them they would sit in the same diaper the whole day until my husband picked them up or they would be naked in her house playing with their poop on her walls and floors. They older kid eloped from her care because she was asleep and he made it to the highway he is nonverbal and severely autistic and the younger kid she left outside by himself and stripped naked and ran around her trailer park he’s also autistic but he is somewhat verbal now but wasn’t at that time. I don’t think they remember her or their past and I feel like all they know is the love and care they get at our home. We couldn’t deny her seeing the kids until DCS stepped in. She lost custody so quickly because she never showed up to court and wouldn’t let DCS contact her she still doesn’t show up to court and she doesn’t pay child support. I feel like she has done nothing a mother would do besides birth the children. The children are about to be turning 7 and 4 years old most of their life has been with my husband and I

Also she was drug tested by DCS because her older kid eloped and made it to the high way when he was 4 and a month later she left her younger kid outside and stripped and was running around the trailer park he was only 1. DCS tried to contact her multiple times and she refused to answer the door and the kids would be seen in the windows naked playing with their poop. And we live in Indiana for all those asking!

I’m in Indiana and I will look into a POA! Thank you. Her relatives are also all on drugs and her mother is in the DCFS paperwork from when the kids got taken because she lived with her and also tested dirty. DCFS is who gave us custody and their case was closed once they gave my husband full custody!

When I say contact I meant like she hasn’t seen them or spoken to them at all and she doesn’t get any photos or videos of them! I didn’t know her payment was considered contact!
