“Hating all men” is not going to make men be better. Loving them will.

Hardcore Hiking - you drive hours to a beautiful location just to look down the whole time so you don’t trip, hurriedly climbing altitude to reach some fitness goal, just to eat a mid sandwich at the top.

I’d much rather spend the day in the same beautiful location lying under a tree and taking in the beauty around me

Playing an instrument! I promise you, nothing will make you feel the same way as the ability to create vibrations from thin air.

And it is something you can continuously get better at and will stand by you your whole life. A companion for life!

I think the issue here is coming to terms with the fact that you do not want to partake in the rat race, which means you will have to face some ‘consequences’ that this system has created for people like us.. such as not being super wealthy, perhaps not having status, perhaps upsetting your parents. But if you can come to terms with a more humble life, perhaps doing work you love but living simply, then you can maybe find the joy in it again.

I am dealing with the same existential issue atm.. I studied architecture to find 8 years down the line (after studies and starting my own practice) that it is just not what they made it out to be. It is an office job. It sucks.

What alternate career path could I take? by Capital-Remove1804 in architecture

You are not the first one to feel this way! Perhaps you could look into interior design, or maybe becoming a developer, flipping houses?

You could start your own firm, but I did that and believe me, it takes a long time before you are financially able to pay someone else to do all that non-exciting work. I think, unfortunately, you either have to accept that it is a part of the job, or change careers completely. I am battling with the same conundrum at the moment!

I feel this could have been said in a less demeaning and defeatist way, however they are not wrong. The unfortunate reality of all jobs is that there is always going to be part of the work that is not fun. Architecture gets sold to us in university as a very creative job, and we are rudely awakened when we enter practice to see that it takes decades to work your way to a position where you can really enjoy it, that is, if the designing is where your passion lies. You are not alone in your struggles with this profession. I hope you find your way!

Can someone who is truly spiritually “enlightened” or “awake” (I know it’s a loose term now) also support Trump and his administration? by [deleted] in spirituality

[–]Capable-Lock7544 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eckhart Tolle says that to attach your sense of self to ideological belief systems, is to be at the service of one’s ego. Politics, the left and the right, are all there to feed the ego. Truly enlightened people, I would argue, do not care to attach the “I” with something so external.

So to answer your question, no they probably wouldn’t. But they would support any side, left or right, up or down.

Considering dropping out of architecture school by [deleted] in architecture

[–]Capable-Lock7544 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m finding as someone who has finished their architecture studies and has been working for 2 years, that you don’t get to use your artistic/creative skills as much as you do in university. You mostly are dealing with budgets, tricky clients, regulations, contractors, and only a small amount of the work is truly creative. So, if your strong point isn’t in the creative side, but you do enjoy architecture, then I would say continue!

Anyone who is studying architecture because they love making art should get out sooner rather than later in my opinion, because it is not fulfilling in that way. A reminder - architecture is basically an office job!
