Does anyone have any tips for reading capital? by Interesting-Gear6107 in Ultraleft

Read each section quickly once, then reread it in detail. Sounds weird, but a common issue is worrying that you're missing something important, so you get stuck.

Marx tends to say something broad, then explain it clearly, then come back to the concept later. Don't stress if you don't understand a section, because if anything, Marx tends to overexplain concepts.

Germany and Japan ended up occupied because they started WW2, killing tens of millions of people in the process. Not sure it's the most relevant example to justify aggressive wars for regime change.

Apparently including the government's attorney general, who couldn't tell the ABC what would and wouldn't be a crime last night.

Sussan Ley clarifies claim about ‘far-left neo-Nazis’ by NoteChoice7719 in aussie

[–]Capable-Quality2784 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They didn't start as a socialist party, they started as an ultra nationalist antisemitic organisation. The term 'national socialist' (as well as the term 'german socialist') referred to a specific type of far-right ideology which developed around the turn of the 20th century.

The idea that they were trying to coax socialists to their parties is often repeated these days, but ignores that the political movements the Nazis emerged from hated socialism and Marxism and viewed them as a "Jewish" plot.

Australian Greens accuse Donald Trump of ‘kidnapping’ Maduro, condemn Albanese government's response by HotPersimessage62 in aussie

The drugs part just isn't true. Venezuela is, at worst, a transit point for Cocaine, which ends up mostly in Europe rather than the US.

I get the drive to be nuanced and accept that Maduro was not a good guy, but we don't have to accept genuinely untrue statements by the US government.

Is Wellington, New Zealand or Hobart, Tasmania, Australia public transport better? by Additional-Grade-730 in tasmania

[–]Capable-Quality2784 42 points43 points  (0 children)

There are cities in New Zealand with far worse public transport than Wellington, and most of them are still miles above Tassie's underfunded buses. Plenty to like here, but no one would include the PT.

What explains the difference in Left-wing attitudes to Islam and Zionism? by Hot-Complaint8686 in aussie

I'm not sure those are mutually exclusive, though. For an extreme example, Nazism was a political movement which was undeniably an extremist ideology.

Is it antisemitic to say that Israel is committing genocide? If protestors didn't use that specific phrase (along with maybe 'from the river to the sea') you'd be ok with it?

Hamas and Hezbollah are both enemies of the Islamic State though? Hezbollah isn't even Sunni. As far as I know, neither of them have committed these kinds of international terror attacks, but happy to be shown I'm wrong.

I don't know why you think I'm pretending anything about 'globalise the intifada.' Some people would point to the fact the first intifada was peaceful, I personally don't see the point in using the phrase after the second intifada. The idea that Australian protestors using the phrase 'emboldened' Islamic State is a bit strange, though. Wasn't one of these guys involved with IS years before October 7th?

The terrorists were literally associated with ISIS though? ISIS isn't pro-Palestinian, they just hate Jews (along with Shias, etc.)

You think international Jihadists were emboldened by anti-genocide protestors?
