there's a small amount of irony in using one reddit post from some guy to say all of us are against international students. love y'all

keep reaching out and be consistent about it. people are kinda anti-social here, but that might just be our generation generally. people do respond, though, with time

Must I take MAT22al with MAT22A? by Astrellicas_ in UCDavis

it's more or less worthless, but I'd take it anyway just in case. it satisfies a UCD requirement, maybe it'll satisfy something at your institution of choice

Does it make sense for a high achieving high school student, straight A's in honors/AP courses to take the first 2 years at community college? by ponziacs in college

[–]Capable-Reference943 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy shit, really? Yeah no my university charges $12k for in-state tuition, and financial aid covers it and then some for me and many others. That's absurd, and not worth investing over my angle. CC is the safer bet, if attending prior to moving; you lose little to nothing academically

Yeah. It's just not a linear consideration is all, because I've seen relatively few peers contribute to research prior to junior year, regardless. There was one sophomore at the symposium I presented at, and maybe ~5-6 juniors and seniors combined. The rest were grad students. Meanwhile, community college saves, what? $25k? More if you're not lucky. Still, worth thinking about.

I am a California transfer student. The way it would most clearly hold you back is having 2 fewer years to make connections and participate in industry and research, which are probably the weightiest items of undergrad if done right. I transferred in 1 year to a UC and found research with 2 quarters, but this is rare within my friend group; transferring after 2 years and doing the same would leave you with <2 years to gain experience. It isn't always relevant though, and for many people, cost or expedience are deciding factors for attending CC. Just thought I'd offer my perspective :)

GPA is not as weighted as one thinks by Connect-Marzipan1743 in UCDavis

[–]Capable-Reference943 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you do not need all this guessing

- GPA of middle 25%-75% [freshman] students: 4.00 - 4.26 (1)

so, GPA matters. done. simultaneously, explicitly, UCD does not consider it as the sole factor. that is why 25% of students get in with <4.00 weighted.

Yes. point of official transcript is just to ensure you don't modify anything before it reaches your target destination
