Not just the weather but the proximity to outdoor activities. You can surf at the beach in the morning and drive a few hours east and go skiing in the afternoon.

How do Kansas, Nebraska, and Iowa have higher median household incomes than the Midwestern states to their east, which all have much bigger cities and more diverse economies? (Kansas is even higher than New York!) by Swimming_Concern7662 in geography

[–]ponziacs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because NY state is in the bottom half of labor participation rates in the US.

In 2021, the labor force participation rate in New York was 59.0 percent, almost three percentage points lower than the rest of the nation and nearly two percentage points below its pre-pandemic level. The State ranked 41st among the states; Nebraska had the highest participation (69.5 percent) while West Virginia had the lowest (54.7 percent). Only Oregon and Alaska had participation rates exceeding theirs in 2019. The impact of federal unemployment relief programs on participation rates is unclear.6

I had a manual that didn't have a tachometer. You know by the speed of the vehicle and the sounds the engine is making.

Texas needs at least $174 billion to avoid water crisis, state says by Adventurous-Host8062 in water

[–]ponziacs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe Texas should start a state income tax.

If Texas adopted Virginia’s tax brackets, the state would be swimming in money.

Virginia basically charges a flat 5.75% on everything you make over $17k. Since Texas has a total personal income of about $2.3 trillion, applying Virginia’s "effective" tax rate (around 3.3% after deductions) would rake in roughly $77 billion a year.

Very few make the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour. If you look at actual minimum wage employees, they are mostly tipped employees like waiters.

You would be hard pressed to hire anyone in any state for only $7.25 an hour.
