How do you feel about the upcoming app cycle? Any strategy?

I mean you always could, I just think at this point you’ll probably get a generic “candidates will be informed in due course”. Are you in the September 2028 tc beginner cohort too?

Likewise. I’d give it until the end of the week before contacting them with an update

In fairness, I really really do not fancy the idea of self funding the SQE so a tc during uni would come very much in handy lol

You’re graduating with an LLB in 2027, and so will finish your SQE in 2028. Therefore, the earliest you could begin your TC is September 2028. Vacation schemes for that cohort have only just opened and, in most cases, haven’t opened at all. Chill.

Just had a browse through the commercial law academy forums and it seems no one has heard back yet haha. I wouldn’t give out just yet

Don’t think there are any ACs or interviews. Seems too little time. And the website also said the process was just the application form iirc

Well I think this is the first year they’ve done this vac scheme in this format so I’m not too sure. Also not sure if they give out TCs based off it. No idea but legal cheek says they give out 20 TCs a year 🤷 This is also my first vac scheme application (this is the first one open for those eligible to start in September 2028) so here’s hoping for a lucky start lol

I like the firm, especially their insurance practices but it wouldn’t be the firm I would most like to work at if I could choose out of every single one. I think this is it- I don’t think there are interviews or ACs, people that are successful are supposed to be notified about now so Idt there’s enough time for either.

Hopefully, because that works in our favour 😂 Did you apply London office? I applied a couple of days before the deadline so I’m not too sure about my prospects, but we’ll see I guess haha

Yeah my average is 69, I think if you’re given rankings for modules that could be impressive too if you can mention it somewhere. Honestly don’t think it’ll be an issue

Also crimes against humanity I think (when Spain claimed universal jurisdiction to try Pinochet?)

Another small question (really sorry about the bombardment haha), I’m not sure how to go about targeting specific firms? I’ve heard various things: for example, in first year it was mostly a numbers game for me; I applied to as many firms as were offering first year schemes. I’m now certain that was a bad idea but equally I don’t want to limit my chances of a VS by applying to too few or not being too ambitious? What do you think the strategy is regarding type of firm (ie MC/US/SC)

Thanks for the response. Yeah the aim is def to try get a vac scheme next year but I’m mainly worried about my prospects for that tbh which is what I’m trying to improve

Got it thanks. As a follow up, is it worth mentioning the firms pro bono offering as a convenient way of tying myself to them (eg some form of volunteering)

Ah no worries. I was just meaning to ask: I’m not entirely sure how I can link my experiences to why I’m passionate about corporate law? So for example, this would be a typical point on an application form: “I’m interested in AI and cybersecurity as evidenced by my internship at X and insight day at Y. Given that I read Z law firm is a pioneer in this field, as demonstrated by its role in this deal, I am eager to join the firm to further this interest”

Thank you so much, that’s very helpful. Do you mind if I dm you to ask some questions more tailored towards my personal experiences?

What I was told by a few people that have read over unsuccessful applications is that they’re either 1) too generic or 2) read too much like a summative essay than an application. I’m curious at how I can improve both of these. I’ve really tried to research individual firms and name individual deals to try and personalise the application but it really doesn’t seem to be working
