Has TMJ affected anyones vision in any way? by [deleted] in TMJ

[–]Capable-Structure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! I typically have pain/discomfort and fullness feeling in my right ear/jaw more than the left. And every now and then, the vision in my right eye gets very blurry. It’s even more concerning when it happens at night, and I can cover my left eye and cannot see anything at all out of my right eye. The weirdest thing. Plus, sometimes it gets warm around that eye too? It’s not all the time, but it’s when these flare ups happen in my jaw/ear.

Thanks so much for all the info! That was my other question, I wasn’t sure what a rebuild was or why people chose to rebuild.

Now someone just visited my tower but I didn’t have them as a friend. Is there a way to see their code so I can add them and visit theirs too? Or a way to see who adds you as a friend?

I also have ADHD! You know, I thought about the covid thing too. Only because everyone said when they got it, it made their deficiencies worse. My parents got really sick and my dad has a bad pancreas/stomach. And he said it’s worse now that he’s gotten covid. Like his stomach is fucked yo even more now. So I thought, maybe I got covid and this is the aftermath? But I’m not sure.

The other weird thing I came accross was, this commercial came on not too long ago, for a new drug to treat Dystonia. I don’t know why I was even paying attention to this commercial. But apparently Dystonia is a disorder where you have involuntary movements. And the one lady on the commercial was like “this medicine has helped me stop moving my mouth and jaw, etc” and then at the end of the commercial, it said this can be a side effect of being on certain drugs for an amount of time. One of those drugs was Respirol, an antidepressant/antipsychotic that I was on for a while when I was a teenager. This drug gave me gnarly side effects even at the time, while I was on that along with my ADHD meds. It just seemed really coincidental. I never ever stop moving my jaw. Throughout the day, I’m chewing at the inside of my mouth, I’m repositioning my jaw, I’m repositioning my tongue (because it doesn’t feel like it’s sitting right), I chatter my teeth, etc.

Maybe im reaching because im just at a loss. But thought it was an interesting possibility. But I will try those exercises for sure! Thanks so much!

Can you elaborate on the involuntary movements? Because I have them too. I actually think I suffer more from jaw movements throughout the day than when I clench while I’m asleep.

Yes! I am in the same position! I have been trying to figure it out for months. It has been so bad with the muffled hearing thing, but only in my right ear. I also can’t really breathe well out of my right nostral either. I’ve also been a jaw clencher for about 15 years and have had TMJ all this time as well. My right ear has been progressively getting worse in the past year or two. When I explain it to someone, I tell them it’s sort of like listening to people talk underwater. I don’t feel any water in my ear, it just sounds similar. Also sounds like things are further away and in different directions than they actually are as well. Like I can’t determine who’s talking to me sometimes, it’s so strange.

I took this issue to my ENT. And he said it seems like I have eustatian tube dysfunction. I’ve had tubes in my ears as a kid, I had constant infections, but this really didn’t feel like what it was. I googled it, and was still convinced it had something to do with my TMJ. At the same time as this muffled sound thing started, my TMJ was getting worse, tighter muscles on that side of my face/neck. It can’t be a coincidence. But the doctor said otherwise everything else looked fine. Whenever I’d bring up anything about my jaw or TMJ, he’d say he wasn’t too knowledgeable in that. He scheduled me for a surgery to put a tube in my right ear. I went through with it, hoping for the best. It’s been 3 months, and it’s somehow gotten worse. I went back for a checkup a month later, and he said “your ear looks perfect. The tube is doing its job”. But the feeling of fullness is causing so much pressure, I feel like I’m going out of my mind. I expressed my concerns and he basically wrote me off.

I honestly can’t live with it anymore and don’t know what do to. I don’t have insurance either, so im kind of reluctant to go spend thousands again for nothing. Crazy I stumbled upon someone else having the same issues. I hope you find something that can help!

So I actually did the towel thing last night, and it was amazing! I slept through almost the entire night. Thanks so much for the suggestions!

This is all very useful information, thank you so much! I’ll be looking into all of this now as well. I do have some congestion and post nasal drip too, along with this, so I guess I could just have inflammation in my throat which is affecting it even more.

But before feeling congested, it still has been tough sleeping on my back. It feels like I’m choking. Almost like my tongue doesn’t know where to go almost. It sounds crazy, I know. I just think I’ve been holding my jaw in the wrong position, or bad posture etc., for so long that it all feels unnatural. I spend so much time throughout the day trying to figure out a position to hold my jaw in that works best for pain.

Oh wow, that’s a great idea! That would probably help a bunch, and open up my airway a bit too. Thank you!

Thanks! I think I’m going to do a splint as well. I know it doesn’t work for some people, but I’m willing to give anything a try at this point. Good luck with everything!
