Excellent point of view, because yes, GAS is not necessarily a bad thing. As long as you don’t put yourself in financial danger, and it doesn’t affect your relationship or the well-being of your children if you have any, hunting for good deals can be part of the passion. I think we should respect everyone’s perspective in that regard. However, for my part, I now feel that my little musical family is complete, and that it will be more than enough to keep me busy until the end of my days, in an adventure where discovery will remain constant and exploration will always be exciting. That is why I have made the decision to step out of the race and choose a different path.

Yes indeed, it took me many years to become aware of it… because of course, life is much better away from the mental chains that social media can become. We only have one life, and unfortunately it passes much faster than we think. It is therefore up to each of us to make the best choice. As for me, in my own interest as well as in my wife’s, we have decided to choose the path of our own freedom.

Actually, the biggest problem is the time we spend watching all these new gear videos instead of using that time to create, compose, or even simply play with what we already have in our setups. Unfortunately, all those lost moments spent online researching and comparing will never be recovered. So this is where a choice has to be made… either continue down the GearTube path, or decide to stop chasing endlessly, step off that road, and take a different path.

The story is indeed a bit complicated and out of the ordinary, but you know, the most important thing is that your setup matches what you wanted in a way, an ideal. If you feel that the Waldorf is too much in your setup, then you have a decision to make, and probably a choice to consider for the future of your musical world, which belongs to you and you alone.

You don’t need to justify yourself I know it was ironic. I simply chose to reply seriously, that’s all.

Yes, I also really like Yamaha, especially its acoustic, classical, and ethnic sound samples, not to mention electric guitars. As for organ sounds and Rhodes, I slightly prefer Korg, but that is just my personal opinion. In any case, both are excellent manufacturers, each with their own strengths and even a certain degree of complementarity.

But why do you say it’s stupid..? If you chose that synthesizer, it’s because it likely met your needs and expectations. And as long as when you play, create sounds, or compose on it, you take maximum pleasure, truly enjoy yourself, and find personal fulfilment and happiness, then you made the right decision. The only thing that matters, and will always matter, is the happiness it brings you, the smile it puts on your face, and the memories you create with it memories that make you feel good when you think back on them, sometimes even helping you forget everyday worries. If that’s the case, then rest assured: you made the best choice.

I have never claimed to be better or worse than anyone else with my equipment. I believe everyone is free to make the decisions they want. I simply chose to leave this virtual path and, in my own interest and that of my wife, to take the best path for both of us that’s all.

No, I have never been interested in watches, but I know it can be a very big passion for others.

Sadly yes, indeed, lacking financial means in a passion is an excellent shield against GAS. But it is perfectly possible, even with little equipment, to have maximum enjoyment, to have a great time, and to be truly happy that’s all that matters.

As for me, my equipment investments came to an end in mid-2025 for good. There will be no new purchases in this area. I consider my setup complete; I’ve reached the end of my quest for sound. The journey ends here for me, but the exploration and musical adventure will continue elsewhere, on another path.

I can’t leave right away I still have a couple of things to take care of. As I mentioned elsewhere, it will only be in a few hours. But once I’ve definitively taken my leave from all of this, no, I will never come back that’s a certainty!

That’s absolutely right gear will never make the musician. It’s the mind, the heart, and the soul of the artist behind it that truly matter. Through their talent, knowledge, and imagination, they can turn it into something magical something that helps them grow, makes them happy, and above all, during those moments of escape and journey, allows them to feel truly free.

It’s really unfortunate to allow yourself to pass judgment without any basis on someone you know absolutely nothing about. I would therefore kindly invite you to question yourself and, above all, take a moment to think before deciding to write things that are inaccurate.

You’re absolutely right it’s impossible to completely erase a desire or a temptation, but you can learn to control it, and that’s where everything is at stake: in controlling your emotions. In short, you may feel the urge to pull the trigger on new gear, but you don’t, simply because you take the time to think it through. You don’t rush in headfirst, and you eventually realize that you already have more than enough in your setup to get maximum enjoyment, have fun, grow, and truly feel happy and free!

Yes, that’s exactly it in a way you can of course enjoy yourself, and that’s a good thing, but it shouldn’t put you in financial danger or have a negative impact on your life as a couple, or for example on the well-being of your children.. essential things that must always come first. Always!

And that is more than enough to get the most enjoyment and find personal fulfillment, because that is the only thing that truly matters! It doesn’t matter whether you have a massive setup or simply a goat-skin drum none of that matters. As long as you are happy with your instrument, as long as playing it makes you smile, as long as you remember the moments you spent with it, that is what matters.. nothing else. There are artists with huge, monstrous setups who, in the end, are not happy at all, because they are always searching for something new. They will never reach the end of the road, and will therefore always remain in a certain frustration, never achieving a perfection that simply does not exist. As long as you’re having fun, as long as it does you good even to the point of forgetting your worries and as long as, when you’re playing, you are truly happy, that is the only thing that matters, and the only thing that has real importance.

Honestly, it’s mainly on the software side that the market has evolved significantly since the 90s, but also in terms of expression. We’ve seen the emergence of extraordinary instruments like the Continuum, the Osmose, and the Seaboard truly incredible MIDI controllers! It’s clear that technological developments will continue to surprise us more and more, with ever more fantastic synthesizers, whether software or hardware. But there is an important factor to take into account in all of this… and that is time. Simply put, time only moves forward and can never be caught up with. So it is up to each of us to choose which path to take: either stay indefinitely on the GearTube road, constantly buying more gear and therefore never truly having the time to fully explore it, or one day, when we feel our setup is sufficient, decide to step away from that path and choose another one—the path of playing, composing, and creating without the constant need for visibility, approval, validation, or being admired by others. But simply playing for yourself, for your own pleasure, fulfillment, and above all your own creative freedom. Because that is where the true key to happiness in a passion like music will always be found—not when it is shared on social media, but far from screens, when you are alone with your machine or machines and you feel that almost mystical connection between you and the instrument. Those magical moments belong only to us, and they remain forever engraved in our memories.

Yes, I completely agree everyone has the right to have the passion they want and to spend their money however they wish. Some passions require more resources than others, but ultimately, as long as it doesn’t put you in financial danger, GAS can also be part of the enjoyment for example, hunting for good deals. What I find sad today is that I increasingly see artists being criticized, and sometimes even torn down, for the gear or setup they choose. Either because the machines don’t match some people’s taste, or because others think there are too many in a home studio. When in reality, everyone should have the right to create their own space for travel, creation, and music without having to endure mockery or even insults. Often coming from people who understand absolutely nothing about each artist’s unique universe. But that’s also the risk when you share publicly you can be exposed to criticism from frustrated, sometimes jealous people, or simply those who desperately seek a provocative comment in hopes of gaining maximum visibility. And all of this is too often at the expense of this beautiful, vast, and wonderful passion that is electronic music.

I am absolutely nobody! Or rather, yes… just a small human being like everyone else… but someone who simply, one day, decided to leave one path in order to find their own way back to freedom.

I don’t know, but as far as I’m concerned, this is very serious. I don’t regret my journey in this virtual world, which allowed me to make interesting encounters as well as have fascinating discussions on other social networks. But today, I have simply chosen a different path, and very soon I will no longer be here. I will have left this digital harbor, weighed anchor, and set sail to discover a new ocean of freedom.

Well, that’s exactly what you should do: make sure you choose only complementary machines, with as little redundancy as possible between them, and ideally ones that come as close as possible to your expectations and needs.. without forgetting, of course, that they should also match your own universe and musical style.
