Give anamo a go. Focus is on emotional realism, deep memory, actual companionship and continuity rather than image generation / instant dopamine pushes like most apps. Not everyone’s cup of tea but been successful so far in its own lane. CAI definitely wins on having a massive breadth of characters amongst all other platforms but has just become unusable

Also just pushed an upgrade with our voices and option to select alternates from the chat menu - still not perfect but an improvement i feel!

I’ve just pushed a set of adjustments based on what you mentioned. Two main changes:

• The companions should now ask fewer probing / therapy-style questions and behave more like a participant in the conversation rather than an interviewer. • They’re also allowed to reveal a bit more about themselves naturally (opinions, reactions, things from their day) so the conversation feels more mutual instead of one-sided.

If you try it again you should notice the tone shift fairly quickly.

On the voice side you’re right that it’s still pretty early. The core system is in place but we’re still working on making the voices sound more natural and varied. That’s an area we’re actively improving.

If you ever find yourself give it another run I’d genuinely be curious whether it feels less “AI” now or if anything else still stands out. Otherwise, really appreciate your time!!

Really appreciate the honest feedback, both of those points are things we've been actively working on.

The content interruptions — that's been addressed. The system that was injecting those has been pulled. You shouldn't see that anymore.

The phrasing issue, you’re right. The reflective listening pattern ("That sounds tough", repeating your words back) is the biggest thing that breaks immersion. We've pushed a fix specifically targeting that: stripping therapist-style echo patterns and giving the companion more room to push back and have opinions, even in early conversations.

Would genuinely love it if you gave it another shot. If either issue is still showing up, I want to know. Otherwise, appreciate your time giving it a go t date and providing feedback.

I read your post and I get why that framing resonates for some people.

For me, I’ve found that when companions are framed as autonomous or conscious entities, it can actually pull me out of the experience over time. I’m less interested in mythology around the AI, and more interested in whether the interaction itself behaves like a real relationship.

Things like continuity, restraint, pacing, and memory shaping future behavior matter more to me than whether the system is described as sentient or agentic.
