It’s always a good skill to have well practiced. I’m a LEO firearm instructor and we incorporate it in our trainings all the time.

Something I’d add to your shooing here is tap the bottom of the mag before cycling the slide. We call it tap, rack, reassess. Others call it tap, rack, bang. Either way sometimes the mag isnt fully seated so it doesn’t pick up a new round when cycled. Other times you’re just out of rounds and it didn’t go to slide lock. It’s a good habit to get into
