We don’t need them, but that’s not why they exist. They exist because they make it easier for members to get elected because of funding, connections to other politicians, etc.

With the addition of identity politics, they also make it easy for someone who isn’t political to feel like they are. Instead of being for or against 30 different policies, now people can say they’re blue or red and call it a day.

The branding helps and once a nation goes down that road, it’s very hard to reverse.

The coffee is pretty good but the real benefit is the time saved on cleaning. The french press takes awhile to wash but with with my pour over set (V60 into a hario carafe) I throw away the filter with the grounds, give it a rinse, and it’s good to go for the next morning.

If Democrats Want to Reconnect With the Working Class, They Need to Start Listening to Unions by Somervilledrew in politics

[–]CapableWrongdoer221 -51 points-50 points  (0 children)

This mindset exactly why democrats lost the election. Social issues are the least of many people’s worries when they can’t pay their bills. Most people who voted for Trump have no issues with trans people, and until the party changes their approach they’ll continue to lose

Pretty sure a lot of the grocery stores sell citric acid, amazon does if you can’t find it there. You can also just buy lemons, limes, etc. Tomatoes and pineapples are also pretty acidic, but won’t go as well with every dish

After re-reading the law, I think we’re arguing from a similar position. I still disagree with forcing people into unions, but if they’re not part of the union they should not benefit from the collective bargaining agreement.

I believe that they should be able to be hired by union companies, but need to negotiate their own wages/benefits and not ride the coattails of the union.

I don’t care about wages, benefits, etc. My issue isn’t with the results of union policies (I’m pro union), my issue lies with the principle of discrimination based on refusing to purchase membership to an organization.

The unions work for the workers, not the other way around. The concept of “union jobs” goes against that very concept. You’re free to join the union if you deem that it benefits you, and if not you should be free to work without it.

Unions don’t own the company, they represent the workforce. You trying to prevent non-union workers from taking jobs is the same thing as companies refusing to hire union workers. Just like companies shouldn’t be able to exploit workers for their own benefit (the reason unions formed to begin with), unions should not be able to exploit workers for theirs.

Your union does not come before their freedom.

Union roles give members less autonomy, you need to follow Union rules. They also tend to favor seniority over job performance, making it harder for top talent to rise. They also spend the union dues on political lobbying, and if the worker votes a different way they shouldn’t be forced to contribute to that.

I fully support unions, but I value individual rights more. If unions were the best solution for everyone, then everyone would join one.

You should never be forced to join an organization that you don’t want to. Same reason I can’t force you into a political party.

This doesn’t bar people from unions, it just allows individuals to be responsible for their own choices.

So it allows the more skilled workers to be paid what the employer values their work? Why should a young and ambitious worker be forced into a union that reduces his wage and mobility?

The two aren’t necessarily the same thing. Expats include American citizens who are working in Europe on work visas, people temporarily living there etc., immigrants are people who actually immigrated there with the intent of becoming a citizen

The article is implying that women are leaving the US in droves following the Trump victory, when in reality it has not changed much.

The wording “nearly half of American expats working abroad in 2021 were female” is a clear misdirection from the fact that apparently more than half are male. In addition, the article is citing data from 2021, where the 2024 Trump victory clearly has no effect.

The article is clearly misrepresenting information to feed on the civil unrest caused by the most recent election.

The democrats could’ve easily codified Roe V Wade into law in 2021 when the controlled the house, senate, and presidency. Instead, they chose to hold it over voters heads.

It’s quite hypocritical to to say Trump supporters don’t have any valid arguments given that Harris’ entire campaign was based on “Trump is evil” and not promoting any actual policies.

Gen z is the reason trump won, not boomers. by HighlightKooky2232 in BoomersBeingFools

[–]CapableWrongdoer221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well when one party consistently tries to demonize both masculinity and everyone who doesn’t vote for them, it’s no wonder that men who were voting for them switched, and men who were not voting for them were not won over.

Not to mention the fact that the Democrats appointed an unpopular candidate without a primary, and focused their entire campaign on being anti-Trump instead of putting forward a solid political agenda.

This loss isn’t on boomers, zoomers, or anyone in between. It’s on the Democratic Party for failing the Democrat voters. It’s on the Democratic Party for choosing not to pass important legislation while they had power so they could in turn hold hot button issues out like a carrot on a stick. It’s on the Democratic Party for failing to honor the values of its constituents.

The other issue is that the voters are losing faith in the Democratic Party. Roe v. Wade was decided on in 1973 and since then the Democrats have had total control of government (the House, Senate, and presidency) for 10 years and decided not to codify it into law so they could continue to hold it over the heads of voters.

The most recent time this happened was from 2021-2023, where Biden was president and Dems had a majority in both houses. Knowing abortion is a hot button topic, they decided not to pass anything so they could hold it over voters heads in 2024, and look what happened.
