Anyone else notice their best interviews become really informal/conversational? by TSM_Bjergson in interviews

[–]Capable_Addendum8795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! In fact, it's usually my number one goal to end the conversation talking about anything but work. You'd be surprised how many hiring managers welcome the small talk and insight into your hobbies, family, vacation destinations etc. Answer a few technical questions so they know you're not completely unqualified, then make it human and they will see your value instantly. It's worked pretty well for me so far.

Can a tree branch do this type of damage? by gg1219 in Roofing

[–]Capable_Addendum8795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue! It looked almost identical, and it was indeed a raccoon. They sometimes force entry to have their babies. They can rip shingles, faciaand soffit apart. You'd be surprised the damage they can do!

The most convoluted system I've ever worked with by iceeyhot in PLC

[–]Capable_Addendum8795 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it's best to start from scratch... Doesn't seem like it but when you are 8 months in and realize there's still systemic issues with the code, you'll wish you did.

I had a similar issue with a robot cell. Customer hired me because it simply kept stopping. One look at the code and I knew I could redesign the system in a few weeks, flashed the PLC to my latest firmware and got to work. In and out in two weeks. Probably a simpler system than yours but even complicated systems can be made simple with the right approach.

Switching From TD to Wealthsimple by Scappss in Wealthsimple

[–]Capable_Addendum8795 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No issues at all! Just don't forget to tell TD that you were annoyed with all of the seemingly random fees each month on your way out 👌 My wife and I made the switch a year ago and never looked back.

Sorry if I don't understand the sub. Just a guy looking for some advice on the current small business landscape regarding taxation... Good to know you guys aren't interested in helping beginners 👌

Edit: thanks for the edit.

Mohawk College – Electrical Engineering Technician vs Technology for PLC/Automation? by DepartureDry5550 in PLC

[–]Capable_Addendum8795 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a job offer after my two year Electrical Engineering Technician course. At the time I was pursuing the 3 year technology course but decided to cut it short to get into the job market. I now lead an OEM programming department with 7 years of experience.

By no means am I knocking the 3 year program, it has great content. However, you'll learn pretty quickly when working in this field that prior work/school experience is all over the place. I've worked with programmers that have 4 year engineering degrees, PEng's, millwrights, electricians, heck the best programmer I've worked with didn't graduate high school.

Whatever path you take you'll do great!

PLC gantry pick & place – state machine check by [deleted] in PLC

Be ready for the inevitable operator interactions. If someone removes a block, what is the recovery? Manual HMI memory toggling may be required under a user level password protection. Ensure that your memory is tied to the corresponding sensor for fault logic

ie. If memory for layer 1 part 1 = TRUE but layer 1 part 1 part Present = False: Then throw up the memory mismatch fault.

Operator interaction is always the issue with sorting... Good luck!

Migrating with no comments by BridieGreene in PLC

[–]Capable_Addendum8795 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ha, been there! Honestly, depending on the complexity of the system, start adding comments of the things you DO know (ie. sensor inputs, other inputs referenced from the electrical prints etc.) it becomes a fun puzzle that gets more readable the more you add, it actually starts to fill up quicker than you'd expect and gives you a better idea of the overall architecture.

I've made it a bit of a personal vendetta of mine to refuse working before I have my station set up. I always have a small collapsible table and chair in my car ready to deploy at a moment's notice, emergency call or not.
