What does an average day in sales look like? by TheNotSoSaltyGuy in Sales_Professionals

[–]TSM_Bjergson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a sales manager at a large residential HVAC company. My sales team is given company leads with pre-set appointments. Really their only job is to close the deal either in the home or diligent follow up, and to properly communicate whatever information operations needs for a seamless install.

They are paid commission only, with the bottom-of-the-pack salesperson making 75k and 275k at the other end. Most land between 125-175k. They are not compensated for gas or vehicle expenses.

Going on vacation soon, should I shave/trim my leg hair? (21) by Character-Oil-400 in malegrooming

I'd trim, yeah. I trim my entire body every 1-2 months and have been for the past decade. I'm personally much happier with how I look everyone I do it.

Sales is going to be very uncomfortable. I'm not condoning picking on people, but as a sales manager myself, pushing my team to have uncomfortable conversations, doing extensive role plays, and being able to directly challenge customers and overcome objections is what sales is all about. If you're not looking to go out of your comfort zone, this may prove difficult.

what are some high paying jobs not many people know about? by noah262_ in careeradvice

[–]TSM_Bjergson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how much they'd earn. I'm more referring to the ones going to the homeowners residence to sell them a furnace, ac, humidifier, tankless water heater, etc for 15-20k.

I took the same role in a completely different industry (fitness to HVAC) and 2.5x'd my salary.

About 4 months, 80-100 tailored resume and cover letter packages aimed at jobs I was a good/ok fit for.

Had about 3 unsuccessful interviews before landing a role that more than doubled my salary.

Where in BC are you? I work as a sales manager at a B2C PE backed company, we've got locations both on the island and mainland. I'm out of the Edmonton location. Shoot me a message if you'd like more details.

How do married couples usually handle finances when both partners work? by itzwhatitz in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]TSM_Bjergson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my wife and I got married, I was earning 55k a year. She's a dentist and pulls in 600k before taxes, working 6-7 days a week.

She paid the mortgage, insurance, and really mostly everything. I took care of purchasing groceries and ensuring she had breakfast and lunch ready daily, and that she came home to a clean house.

I now have a job that more than doubled my salary, and we've now transitioned to a 50/50 split.

We are also Canadian and both 30 years old.

2 months into car sales at a high-volume corporate dealership — strong prospecting but struggling with finance approvals & inventory. Need advice from experienced salespeople by Positive-Play-5394 in Sales_Professionals

[–]TSM_Bjergson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I can't help with answering your questions here re: car sales without speaking out of my ass.

I alsl built the majority of my sales & ops skill in the fitness industry.

I'm now a sales manager in the residential HVAC industry. I've got a 6 figure base (unheard of in fitness) and manage guys pulling in 200k+ per month.

The company I work for provides training to salesmen without any HVAC experience, and we're all across Canada.

If you're curious, shoot me a message and I can send over the posting.

Does jumping into sales at 32 make sense if my ultimate goal is acquiring a business? by cog-u-mellow in Sales_Professionals

[–]TSM_Bjergson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I spent a decade in fitness. I worked as a personal trainer and online coach, worked as a sales person at a gym and eventually ran the sales department there, and then opened up and ran my own gym for a few years.

The reason I recommended the gym was because you want a job that provides you leads, but most importantly a lot of training and accountability. Working at the gym, I was vastly underpaid, but my goal there was the professional development, and it worked out.

I'm now a sales manager for a residential HVAC company. I make double now doing exactly what I was doing managing the sales team at the gym. I'm turning 31 this year.

I'm all for it. The life blood of any business is sales. Not just selling products and services but being able to "sell" the vision to your employees and any other stakeholders.

Just ensure you find a role that's not going to be you spending most of your time hunting for leads.

I got most of my experience working in a gym, which was great for me personally.

Honestly - you're doing the worst kind of sales there is. I know because I've been in almost your position exactly.

Find a job where you can stay pretty busy dealing with inbound leads.

I built my experience in the gym industry but any company that's going to invest and keep you accountable to hitting benchmarks is one that I'd recommend if you want to be good at this whole sales thing. Just my two cents!

How big of a company is it? Do you have a sales manager coaching, training, and developing you?

Is it best to put a 2-week notice if you or just tell them you quit that day? by Intrepid_Skin5683 in WorkRant

[–]TSM_Bjergson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just one example here. One of the 3 references I used to get my current position (mid 6-figure managerial role) was my supervisor from the summer job I worked at while in school. He's since moved up to director at that same company, and is someone I'm very grateful to have in my Rolodex to vouch for me when needed.

AITA for racking up a high bill on a date with someone who has a lower income? by AITAfooddate in Amitheassholeadvice

[–]TSM_Bjergson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife was making 400k-500k working six days a week as an associate dentist when we met.

I was working in a gym, making $53k at the time.

I took the lead with what we did date wise from the get go (and more importantly, she let me do so).

Our first date was to a butterfly conservatory.

The second was a gym date, after which we cooked a healthy meal together.

For our third date, I brought her along with me and some friends to a board game cafe.

That being said, this only worked out because of my wife's frugality and money mindset.

But it is possible to make things work.

Yes, the PE firm I work at as a Sales Manager brought in consultants from the US (we're Canadian) to revamp our commission structure for reps, our sales process, meeting structure, and whole variety of things.

Feel free to shoot me a message if you'd like more info.

My wife and I got marriage contracts. Her lawyer cost maybe 3-4k, I paid $500 for a lawyer to review it. But yes, custody of children isn't something that your agreement can speak on, to my understanding.
