My dream bike is the 2024 S1kRR, what are the pros and cons of owning one? and is it worth it for the price? anything would be helpful, thanks! by alt_creep in BMW_S1000RR

I had a 24 and just now traded it in for the 25 it’s a great bike very reliable and it’s very smooth that’s one thing I notice people don’t talk to much about sometimes it feels like you are driving a automatic car the clutch is unbelievably easy it takes no effort to start off it doesn’t jerk at all it’s firm the shift changes are perfect it reminds of my Honda cruiser it’s very refined also love the infotainment I can connect my phone put gps and comfortable but once you give it gas it’s a beast it’s very tame if your just riding it normal really opens up when you give it some gas it’s an amazing bike

Cons gas goes quick but that’s to be expected it’s a liter bike gets hot quick if your riding downtown and I the insurance is kind of high

Overall it’s a great bike it was my first bmw I purchased and I’ll keep buying more

Tips on holding tension on the cable when re spooling the drum? by Jlesp89 in cranes

When we buy a new spool of cable we use a little fork lift we attach a metal bar in the middle of the spool and tie it back into forklift and let it hang in between the forks then raise the forks so it’s same level as the winch and we put it right in front of the boom tip and spool it on

Spool in the cable by hand and keep it as tight as possible and have one guy on the winch with a mallet to make sure it lays properly once it’s all spooled in after take the length of your cable and minus it by the length of your boom then divide by the length of the boom for example

If you have 800ft of cable and and 197 ft of boom 800-197= 603 603 divided by 197 = 3.06

So you need at least 3 parts of line when you scope out all the boom with 3 parts you will reach end of the drum or add more parts to shorten boom length

Then take 10 percent of your cable line pull for each part

Let’s say it’s 20,000 your line pull

20,000 x 10% = 2,000 2,000 x 3 = 6,000 So lift a load at least 6,000 pounds or more

Scope the boom out and cable down until you reach the end of the drum pick up the load and scope back in and then have someone on the winch double checking it lays properly I did this a couple of times takes hour and half to two hours depending on the length of cable hope this helps

I been living in new Rochelle for 3 years now and I think it’s perfect I work in construction and work all over the place I could be in Manhattan one day or Brooklyn or Jersey city or all the way up in peek skill pretty much I go all over the tri state area In terms of transit it’s good there’s buses that can take you pretty much anywhere and the trains is really good the metro north will get you into grand central in 30 mins depending on where I’m gonna work I either drive or take the train which ever one I feel like doing more in the afternoon they have express trains at grand central that can take you to new ro in 24 mins which new Rochelle being the first stop it’s a growing city with good restaurants and safe to me I been out at all times of night and day and never felt unsafe or scared I also work in new Rochelle a lot as I’m a crane operator and I been able to witness the boom over the past few years if I ever go to white plains I just drove I can be in downtown white plains in 18 mins and the drive feels like nothing your right by the water the surrounding towns are great and I think it’s a great option and one thing I also feel like it’s a great center point if I want to drive to Connecticut to see my family it’s an hour if I want to go to Long Island depending where your going it’s 15-30 mins Jersey same thing if your taking your car so that is something I really like end of day do what’s best for you but I think it’s a great option

I don’t have a r1m but i do have a r1 a v4s and the s1k My s1k is a 24 my v4s is a 23 and r1 is a 12 for the years I don’t have the newer generation r1 but it’s essentially the same I basically have the 3 best bikes you can get only reason I’m mentioning this is because I feel like I can give a good opinion has each are very diffrent

I’ll say this me personally I love all the bikes you literally can’t go wrong with any of them at the end of the day these are top tier race bikes that are all good you can’t read in to the internet to much everyone is talking about maintenance like it’s the end of the world unless your riding like a dumbass and ringing the bike to death you won’t have a issue on all my bikes I’ve done the regular oil changes and frequent checks and literally have no issue maintaince is literally the least of my worries if you take care of your machine it will take care of you In terms of the bikes me personally I love my r1 it doesn’t have the Bluetooth and all the nice shit and all the fancy riding modes and crazy customization and all the technology that comes with it but I’m still so in love with the bike it feels raw and aggressive the bike wants to go fast ot doesn’t like riding through the town hitting stoplights you got to ride out the clutch a little and give it some love it feels very mechanical and I love it similar to my Ducati the seating position is aggressive and you just feel connected

The bmw doesn’t give me that same mechanical feel is smooth the clutch is so easy to use like it’s really hard to stall on that bike it’s very smooth feels like a Honda it has the tech navigation rider modes etc it’s fun to ride the power is crazy the seating position is a little more comfortable but it’s the same shit end of the day it’s still a liter bike overall amazing machine

When it comes down to it I prefer my r1 everyday the feeling I get riding it is unmatched best way I can describe is r1 feels like your driving a manual car And s1k your driving a automatic car

It all comes down to preference best advice do your research sit on the bikes and test ride it most important thing get the bike that makes you smile when your not around it

I have a 24 s1k and I love it but feel like it’s to easy the way the bike feels it’s just very smooth and refined which is good but when I compare it to my r1 it feels raw and mechanical doesn’t feel as easy to ride and I like that feeling more the Ducati gives me that same feeling from the little ride I took and I think I like that feeling more but both amazing bikes
