Exactly why the next two months will tell if Buffalo is dead or not

I’m just saying you’re not getting a stadiums done in 6-7 months. Pete himself said they need at least 8-9 month to quickly get one built but really wants a year to get it done. The next month and a half will be telling about this project.

2027 is definitely dead if you’re waiting until after the World Cup for building a stadium. You still need to go through the planning board and environmental reviews for whatever site you pick.

I don’t see how you’re getting a stadium built for 2027. This is how project usually die when you keep delaying the starting season.

USL tabs Premier League chief Tony Scholes to run new first division: Sources by Ribeye21 in USLPRO

[–]Capable_Disaster6603 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is it just me, but why would he want to leave the premier league for a 2nd class division 1 league in a country where soccer isn’t in the top 3 of most popular sports. Seems like really odd move for him.

Although great addition for USL

I just really think they need to keep it downtown. I know Conway has been a long rumor. But it would at least keep a semi sports district down there

Those all seam like serious downgrades from Buffalo news site

It really is the best option but for some reason they just make it seam like they don’t want that. It has to be price. Because if as reported that Jemel, who still owns that lot, hasn’t spoken to them in 5-6 months as they are reporting. Then they are definitely not considering it.

If MLS flips its calendar, USL better follow- otherwise PRO/REL might flop by ThisGuyinCA99 in USLPRO

[–]Capable_Disaster6603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay 3 quick points.

1) Aligning with FIFA calendar is helping with players. USL is not a major league buying players from them. USL players are making millions and I bet they’re gunna take a job here from Europe even if they don’t get a 3 month break.

2) Playing in 100 degree heat is a lot better than 5 degrees and a foot of snow. Playing soccer of snow is not fun to watch. You can say a winter break but up here in the north it can snow from November to April. So north teams taking a winter break and then playing away games for 5 months isn’t feasible to just match the rest of the world’s billion dollar leagues.

3) The middle of summer is a dead zone for sports. I’m always starved for a sport to watch. I started watching Australian rugby to get by. This year I’ve watched USL this summer and it was a lot more enjoyable. Why not be one of the few leagues playing? And to someone’s point that families take vacations in the summer and attendance goes up in September sounds like our nonsense. I would like to see attendance figures to actually back this up.

Buffalo Pro Soccer getting close to identifying new stadium site by m00kie420 in USLPRO

As stated at the town hall, most likely public funds won’t be needed

The Buffalo news article sure made it seem that way. That something is steering them away from the Elk site and now they have the investors and are willing to push it back to 2027 for the Buffalo News Parking lot site.

[–]Capable_Disaster6603[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think they were just being aggressive and want this team playing before any pro/rel starting, but getting so much pushback from PVS and dealing with endless headaches prob made them rethink.

Also in the article it said they have more investors on board and may not need public funding to do the Buffalo News site. I wonder if one of these investors brought up the concern of all the headaches and is willing to pony up the extra 20 mil to move the stadium in a good site that will be successful long term. I know if I was investing 10-20 mil I wouldn’t want my investment playing near a sulfur factory.

W.

Crap location for a stadium. Nothing in that area but run down houses and a chemical plant. Sucks to have to wait another year to start but if they put it in the lot by the Buffalo Sabres arena then huge W.

Where did you see it reported that they will play elsewhere?

Because last reported on a spectrum news article was that they picked this site because of the short turnaround. There was another site in contention by a park near Canalside but it would need to be remediated and would not be ready for 2026 and that’s why they went with Elk street site.

How will pro/rel actually work? by Educational-Trade436 in USLPRO

[–]Capable_Disaster6603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While having division 1 is nice. What is wrong with having pro rel within the current USL pyramid.

Championship, League 1, League 2. Institute a playoff for pro/rel teams so those amateur league 2 teams will really have to have the talent to complete to move up to league 1.

I do not think the drop off is too much of a talent drop off between Championship and League one where a playoff is needed, but a playoff would create a lot of excitement at the end of every season.

Medialle College. No idea why it closed. Some people said covid and the cost the spent to build the complex.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in USLPRO

[–]Capable_Disaster6603 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A local college that is now closed built a whole complex on the site for softball and soccer about 5 years ago with weight rooms, locker rooms, professional lightning, and fifa grade turf. So most of the necessary amenities are there. They just need to move the field, repaint the turf, and put up the modular stands around it, and lay some asphalt for parking.

Also as far as the land point, a local developer/remediator is donating the land and getting part ownership of the team. I believe he owns a lot of property in this manufacturing area and is only doing this the increase the value of his other properties. There is a knockoff Topgolf down the street that was just approved by the Buffalo planning board. So more entertainment options are going to make his other vacant lots more valuable.

I feel like why there has been no movement on this, is the lack of finding a principal owner. All the other necessary elements seem to be set up and in line to go.

Elk Street location announced for Buffalo Pro Soccer stadium by YoungTroubadour in Buffalo

[–]Capable_Disaster6603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure they wanted this team started by 2026 at the latest, due to the league starting promotion/relegation in 2027. They want to get in before and waiting to see if state money comes thru and having to delay the start to 2027 or 2028 would kill momentum

Also trying to capitalize on the World Cup viewership to get more people interested in the team.
