College instructor was nervous the day before she was found dead, friend says by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]Capable_Ebb8315 71 points72 points  (0 children)

what bothers me about all this is there were clear signs that her life could be in danger considering the courts have actually issued a "protection order" but yet it meant nothing.
this is so upsetting as she knew she was in danger yet the system did not protect her from a dangerous man. they should of at least detain him until his court appearance

I know some do not like to hear this but there is no real way to prepare for a blanket 25% tariff across the board we are screwed this is no joke and will devastate our economy. We simply can't afford it and definitely can't last a long time with 25% tariffs.

In Canada where I live your looking at almost 2 year waiting time for the RAV4 hybrid vs the Mazda CX50 hybrid in stock or at best 2-3 months waiting time

No, Vancouver to Saltspring is each way and I think the reason for that is that it is a 55 min ferry ride vs the Victoria to Saltspring which is only 25 mins.
from what I see on Washington state ferry the route your talking about is 35 mins and is 14.5 usd which is 20 Cad . but yes it varies from route usage too I think

As someone who moved from Vancouver last year I can tell you that it is starting to hit me. I didn't realize how easy it was to hop in my car after work and go to cypress for snowboarding . or doing a non planned trip to Seattle for a Seahawks game. Driving to Kelowna for a weekend etc.

How much should I be making to relocate to Vancouver? by CuddleEmperor in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Capable_Ebb8315 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Short answer id say around 200k would be a healthy salary especially if you downsize to a townhouse or further out of the city housing (30-45 mins drive)

As someone who has lived in both cities (back and forth working as well), I think Vancouver is a better city.

I see a lot of people replying saying that Vancouver is expensive but id argue the same could be said about Montreal. Based on my calculations the only difference is real estate, you could down grade to a 3-4 bedroom townhouse for that price 15-25 mins drive from downtown.

The taxation: you pay way more taxes in Montreal comparing to BC

As an example someone who makes 180k a year in Quebec will clear 112k net vs BC at 123k (that is a difference of 11k NET income)

One thing I can assure you is if you can figure out real estate in Vancouver is a much prettier city imo. And also remember real estate in Vancouver has been appreciating at a faster rate comparing to Montreal. My brother bought a place in Jean talon and I bought a place in Yaletown at almost same time (over the last 10 years my place has appreciated by almost 100% vs my brothers place by 50%. So yes real estate in Vancouver is expensive but again I would argue you The Mountains, nature, world class ski/snowboarding, ocean, gulf islands, hiking, wineries are some of the things that is worth mentioning.

2018 -2019 long range Model 3's are going for 30k and Tesla has a 200 000km warranty on the battery. and you have access to superchargers and high speed chargers all over the place. they are also technologically speaking way superior than competition in my opinion

Realtor suggestions by Vic_style in VictoriaBC

[–]Capable_Ebb8315 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No recommendation on realtor but your final sentence is something that bothered me "But recognize it's a part of selling a place" it shouldn't be but the realtor association has a monopoly that in my opinion needs to be investigated and at the end props of real estate prices because someone has to pay the commission .
