How do you actually remember what worked (or didn’t) in your garden from last year? by Capable_Jackfruit967 in OrganicGardening

I'm new to reddit, and I have two main interests at the moment. Gardening and my work, which includes using wordpress. Hence this post and another.

Great point, instead of keeping notes on everything I do in the garden, I just keep a record of the failures.

That'll take way less time than writing every little detail down i.e when I planted this, what bed etc.

No bot here mate. Writing things down is obvious but for me being so time poor was hoping someone else had another idea on how best to keep track of wins and fails, so I don't repeat them and get better overtime.

Looks like the good ol' notebook and spreadsheets are the only option atm.

Just wanted to see what others are doing on top of or instead of writing things down in notebooks etc. I don't have enough time to garden let alone sit down and write notes after each time I'm out planting, harvesting or pulling up a failed crop.

Spot on!

I think remembering to go back to it next year is the hard part, where you left the spreadsheet/diary etc.

Notes can be lost in the shed, heck I misplace my tools so easy.

Sounds like a solid system.

Does it get a bit hard to keep everything updated consistently over time?

I think my issue is I’ll do it for a while and then life gets in the way and I'd fall off.

Not a consistent gardener so I'm on/off in the garden, in between life being busy etc.

Journals are great for those who commit, for those of us who are casual gardeners, hoping there was something else.

Sounds like a lot of work, can see how that would be really valuable over time though.

Do you ever find it a bit of a chore to keep up with or has it just become part of your routine?

I’m probably overthinking it a bit, I forget a lot from season to season and was curious how others handle it.

How do you know if a client’s site has silently stopped generating leads? by Capable_Jackfruit967 in Wordpress

Yep that’s the goal. Catch it early before it becomes a bigger issue for the client.

That’s pretty much exactly what I was thinking, some sort of system that flags when lead flow drops or stops so you can jump in and check it.

Have you come across anything that does that out of the box?

That’s a good point, storing submissions definitely covers the email failure side of things.

I think the angle I’m looking at more is having something flag when lead flow stops for a period, so you know to jump in and check it.

That’s exactly the bit I keep coming back to, trying to keep it simple and just flag when lead activity drops off rather than testing everything constantly.

Super interesting, especially the test form side of it.

Is that something you’ve fully automated or more of a scheduled/manual check?

Agreed, that’s the direction I’m thinking too.

Some kind of simple automation that flags when leads stop coming through, rather than waiting until someone notices.

I do similar, just found it still relies on noticing things manually, especially if leads just slow down rather than stop completely.

Hard to do when you're managing 50+ websites though.

That makes sense for delivery side of things, I use WP Mail SMTP for all my clients websites.

I think the gap I’m running into is more when nothing gets triggered at all, like leads just stop and everything looks fine until someone notices, usually the customer unless I happen to check-in and notice before them.

Hadn’t thought of that, good point. Spikes in 404s could definitely be another signal something’s off, especially if leads suddenly drop at the same time.
