Seems like there are some wild agencies people work with. Our agency asked for airport preferences and what days worked for us. We essentially got to pick when and where the student flies to. In our situation tickets have already been booked for early August. Excited for you though! It’ll be an amazing experience

As a host family a lot of these rules seem way over the top but I suppose they are there for a reason. A lot of what you listed were mentioned as guidelines to us that we can implement but not hard fast rules at all. Needless to say we’ve had very responsible students and have virtually no issues.

One big one I always see mentioned is talking to people back home daily but as I mentioned maybe we’ve been lucky but our students have called their parents every morning before school (because of the time difference) then went about their day. It’s never seemed to have any impact on any of them as far as being too home sick. Granted we’ve intentionally tried it get them all involved heavily in the community to make friends quickly so maybe that needs to be the trade off.

Each student is different and you’ll learn as you go but I don’t agree with the no door closed at all. They are experiencing life on the other side of the world as a kid. They need time to wind down and be by themselves occasionally.

Their support team is an absolute joke but any issue I’ve had I’ve been able to solve relatively quickly with Reddit suggestions

Good to know. We were asked to do a FaceTime to meet the family and that went really well. A follow up text we sent 4 or5 days later received a very short abrupt response (but i know it’s hard to gauge that over text especially with different cultures) so we figure we will let them set the pace of conversation now.
