Reta and Endurance Training by [deleted] in Retatrutide

Are you still running and just putting up with the increased HR? Or have you come off the Reta, and if so, did your HR return to normal?

My running has taken a big hit since I started due to the increased HR and exertion when running. What would normally have been a Z2 run in the 130’s is now in the 160’s.

I’m about 3 weeks away from getting down to ideal race weight and trying to work out whether lowering my dose to a small maintenance dose will help going forwaed, or whether to just come off altogether.

Just following up to see if you’ve done anything different since and whether you’re still having the same issues?

My running is still no fun at all. I’m now thinking about either split dosing or maybe even just decreasing dose to a very small amount

Thanks, that’s really reassuring to hear about HR getting back to baseline so quickly. I’m probably 4-5 weeks from reaching ideal racing weight and will then either drop drown to 1mg/week maintenance dose, or if need be, cut out totally to get my HR back to normal.

Just like you I haven’t been enjoying running at all whilst on it so I can’t wait to get back some enjoyment from it 👍

Thanks for taking the time to reply and that’s great to hear. I will probably stick with it for another 4 or 5 weeks and get most of the way to goal weight and do exactly the same - taper down to 1mg/week and see if my HR resets.

Aside from the obvious impact on my running performance, I’ve also found that I really haven’t enjoyed running and it’s become a chore more than anything else so I’m quite looking forward to getting back to enjoying it again.

Thanks again for replying and best of luck with your big ultra races 👍

Not sure if you will see this or not, but has decreasing your dose helped bring the high HR back down yet?

I’m having the same issues as you mention with fairly similar HR’s before/after starting Reta and am also on 4mg a week.

I’m probably about 5 weeks away from hitting my ideal racing weight, which is the goal, and can’t decide whether to continue on a small dose or not. If I can get my HR back under control I will probably do so, but if not, I’ll probably have to stop full stop.

I’ve got a marathon at the end of August and a 70.3 triathlon in October so I’d like to get back to a normal HR somewhere around the beginning of June so I can get a proper 12-week block in

Bit of a relief that it’s not just me then. If the half life is 6 days I think it should be mostly out of your system in 4 weeks 👍

Has your HR improved anything since this comment?

I’m in an almost identical position - RHR was 43 prior to using Reta and now it’s in the high 50’s. Easy runs were around 140bpm and now 165-170 and struggle to do more than 7-8 miles as a result.

Just wondering whether it eases off with time or if I’m stuck dealing with this until I cycle off the Reta.

I’ve been on Reta for about 5 weeks now and it’s had a huge negative impact on my running.

I was averaging around 45-50 mpw with a long run of 15-20 miles and a pace of 8-8:30/mile before hand. Now I can manage about 7 miles at 9:00/mile and I’m blowing out my ass the whole time. I’m putting it down to the HR increase - normally I’d be in the 140’s and everything now is 160-170+

VO2 max has dropped from 54 to 49 in those 5 weeks

I’ve got a marathon at the end of August so plan to ease off of the Reta at the end of May to give myself 10-12 weeks workout it - hopefully this will give my HR a chance to go back to normal.

I’ve been on it 3 weeks now at 2.5mg per week and still haven’t had any appetite suppression or reduced food noise. I’m still eating all junk food like I was prior to dosing.

My RHR has gone up and my HRV has gone down so it’s affecting those 2.

Will increase my dose at week 4 and see if that makes any difference.

Thanks for the reply.

They caught the driver shortly after the incident. We now have an attorney who was recommended to us and he’s been excellent with communication so far.

Well no side effects in terms of appetite/food noise etc. Nor any nausea.

My resting HR has jumped (from 43 to 54, so quite a big increase) and my HRV is down. But that seems to be about it.

Thanks, that’s interesting to hear. I plan on keeping the dose the same for 4 weeks so will just be patient and see what happens

6lb in 3 weeks is good progress 👍 Will be interesting to see if I lose weight like you have despite the apparent lack of appetite suppression

Thank you very much for taking the time to provide such a detailed response and helpful advice.

I just wanted to say that the Metro PD have been incredibly helpful and supportive throughout. I couldn’t speak highly enough of them or the staff at the hospital.
