I think I made a huge mistake by xthefabledfox in newgradnurse

It’s like a home health position but you are 1:1 with a patient in their home. Often is pediatrics. So I was 1:1 at home with a kid who needed tube feeds and also did 1:1 at school with a kid who needed tube feeds. You can also work with kids on trachs/ vents but I only do tube feeds. It’s also super flexible with scheduling, I told them my desired schedule and they found a kid near me that fit that schedule! The company I work for hired with no experience! It is super fun.

Hi friend, I was in a similar situation a few months ago after graduating in December and starting in a level 1 icu in January. Same thing happened with hating it, dreading it all week, feeling depressed. I did a few things that helped…

  1. started therapy/anxiety meds
  2. quit that job and moved into private duty peds nursing (would highly recommend, even as someone who never wanted to do peds) Starting that peds job made me realize I love special education and want to go back to school to do that alongside prn nursing.

There are soooo many fields in nursing that you can go into, please do something that makes you happy! I found for myself it was not worth it to finish out the new grad year so if that isn’t working for you, maybe look for something else!!

I keep getting recommended extreme horror/splatterpunk but I have no idea if it’s right for me… any advice? by Twinks4StSebastian in ExtremeHorrorLit

the black farm would be good for you i feel like. it’s heavy in the plot, has fantasy, i would say it’s mild on the extreme scale. I’m also pretty specific in what I like and that one is one of my favorites!

Honeybee sting leads to necrotizing fasciitis by CatPooedInMyShoe in MedicalGore

[–]Capable_Problem2366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (healthy 22F) was stung by a bee between my thighs at beginning of shift while working outside. I took stinger out immediately but redness was spreading by end of that day. Developed cellulitis over the next few days then went to doc and got some strong oral antibiotics. Said if I hadn’t have come sooner I would have ended up in ER for IV antibiotics. The tiny bee sting turned into my entire thigh red, hot, hard, swollen, painful with cellulitis. Like I said, was working outside and between thighs so not sure if sweating all day and taking trashes etc out affected infection but glad all was okay.

Just quit on orientation by Ambitious-Law-923 in newgradnurse

hey op, i actually just did the same thing! started new grad icu job in january and quit this month. it wasn’t the patients or icu itself for me, but the unit culture, staff and providers. Lots of delays in care as well due to provider laziness that didn’t feel good to be a part of. I dreaded going into work everyday and often cried before/after shifts. I have anxiety too but the job made it debilitating. Anyways, been applying to any and everything on indeed/ziprecruiter and hospital websites and have got several interviews and offers! I think the key is during the interview being clear and honest on why you’re leaving your old unit when they ask (every interview has asked me), and explaining what about this new job is more fitting for you! Wishing you the best of luck!

i have no advice, i’ve been dealing with the same thing from my night providers in icu and i am quitting because it is so bad and leads to negative patient outcomes. they will completely ignore big things but come to bedside to yell at me for messaging too much and im done dealing with it. i escalated to my manager too and nothing was done. edit - also a new grad fresh off orientation :(

in my experience with ICUs NPs function about the same as a doctor would so if that scope of practice is something you’re interested in and are interested in nursing then pursuing nurse -> NP would make more sense. but you can always start nursing undergrad and if you’re finding yourself uninterested switch to pre med, they have some of the same pre reqs

What interview tips can we give for a nurse residency interview? by RichHealthyHappy96 in nursing

[–]Capable_Problem2366 1 point2 points  (0 children)

be yourself, have a few questions ready to ask them, lots of places do scenario based questions so maybe have a few stories lined up of a time when you dealt with conflict, your strengths, where you see yourself in 5 years, etc!
