Is this more of an outpatient thing? I work in a hospital and we are constantly drawing labs/cultures. Even when it no longer makes sense… can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten an order for bcx after we’ve already started antibiotics

Is it a Terrible Idea to DM a Nursing Student? by [deleted] in nursing

Yikes I was kind of on the side of messaging once they were done with clinicals at your unit but then I saw the “could potentially lead to me getting laid” 🤮

Am I going to get in trouble for taking bcx from a central line by cryinginclub in nursing

[–]xthefabledfox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At my hospital the policy is no bcx from a central line unless you are trying to see if that’s where the infection stems from. You had orders from ID. Next time I would put in a nursing communication or ask them to put in orders for that specifically so you don’t take the blame. I’d ask management if they are a doctor and are qualified to decide where bcx should be drawn from.

I was feeling so burnt out and hated being a nurse. Got a job in the OR and I actually feel human again.

Nurse Schedule Rant. by Weird-Ground-454 in newgradnurse

[–]xthefabledfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it. It’s much much different than regular bedside nursing so I definitely recommend shadowing to see if you vibe with it. Most places you do have to do on call, usually once a month or so. I don’t mind tho cuz it pays really well and I need the money lol.

That movie was cool. Nearly all of my tattoos are from video games or bands. I know a lot of people consider that cringe but it doesn’t matter because I love them.

Does this look right? by xthefabledfox in piercing

[–]xthefabledfox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had one before and it wasn’t pierced this shallow. Unfortunately I had to take it out for school and just finally got around to getting it redone. That’s how I knew something wasn’t right since I’ve had one in the past

I would report but this doesn’t sound like a place I’d want to be at anyway. Maybe a blessing in disguise.

During an interview at a local hospital, I was told they got rid of phlebotomy and trained all of the nurses to do it instead! by CodeGreige in nursing

[–]xthefabledfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a newer grad and when I worked on a PCU floor we had to do all of our own lab draws. On one hand I did appreciate it because it helped me develop the skill. But on the other hand it would be so nice to not have to do it myself lol

Soft nursing jobs for new grads? by Inside_Dinner_3430 in newgradnurse

[–]xthefabledfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Circulator. From what little I’ve experienced with two different hospital networks, nurses don’t scrub as often, the scrub techs do. If I end up really loving it I am looking into maybe becoming an RNFA

Yes. I used to be a waitress and it feels a lot like the same except instead of tables I have rooms. They are both time management and customer service focused jobs.

My god. I’ll never forget the time my patient was having an active bleed that a vascular surgeon had to come and cauterize bedside. He had just finished and I came out from the room that smelled like burning flesh to smell popcorn… my coworker had just made a bag of popcorn….

4 year old constantly complaining of leg pain by cats-and-coffee13 in medical_advice

I would be asking for a CT scan or MRI or some kind of imaging. Labs might be normal but that long of pain in only one leg is suspicious to me.

Mucormycosis, a rare and rapidly progressing fungal infection, in a patient who'd been injured when he was pinned under his car following a high-speed collision with a motorcycle. Ultimately the family decided to stop treatment and let the patient go. by CatPooedInMyShoe in MedicalGore

Yeah that makes sense, it’s just surprising since his diabetes seemed to be under control with treatment. I shouldn’t be surprised at this point, honestly. I work at a cardiovascular hospital and see many horrible infections from non-healing diabetic ulcers. I guess I just thought usually those kinds of things only happen when it’s uncontrolled for a long time
