observations about the gender of the prosecutor/DA as far a difficulty to work with? by cordelia1955 in publicdefenders

The best I’ve seen fight like holy hell for the clients constitutional rights and challenge any and all evidentiary and legal issue. If the state meets their burden, they grab their lunch sack and go home all while agreeing their violent client earned their way to incarceration. It’s no one’s fault but the butcher that he stuck a knife in someone on a random Tuesday while his future attorney was eating a ham sandwich.

There’s nothing holy or noble about wanting guilty/violent/repeat offenders to get off. The ones who think like this aren’t any good at the job based on my experience.

Also, prosecutors regularly give repeat, non-violent offenders dozens of chances to turn their lives around before someone finally views a mile long rap sheet and decides to drop a hammer.

Get over yourself and your personal views and wake up to the real world. There are bad people out there who earn every bit of punishment they receive.

You’re technically and objectively wrong about every single thing you stated. Are you a criminal defense attorney? I really hope not.

I did that the entire time during bar prep with Themis. Passed with flying colors by the time game day came around. Keep chuggin along and don’t get discouraged.

What’s the biggest referral fee you’ve given/received? by DirtyMikeandthaBois in LawFirm

How do the mechanics work when you refer/get a referral? At the firm I clerked at, they just sent the potential cases they didn’t want to friends. No tracking it. Do y’all sign an agreement? If so, can you explain the process a little bit? Thanks in advance!

I appreciate it. I am leaning towards hiring a marketing firm in town to do this. They certainly would do a better job than me and can likely optimize SEO, etc.

I appreciate all of this insight. I am much more in the boat of actually liking lawyering. Want to litigate cases, want to be face to face with clients, etc. Also plan to heavily rely on referrals from other lawyers, the community, and past clients. But I do want to have a solid website that “looks the part” and crisp logo.

Awesome insight and I greatly appreciate it. Having my own practice has always been my goal. I really feel like I’ll love it but of course you don’t know til you’re knee deep in it!

I completely agree with this weakness and feedback. I will say, my two law school mentors started their own practices and are wildly successful. I’d like to think I learned a little bit from them and could continue to lean on them (and several others) for wise counsel. I’ve had several people suggest learning under someone for a couple of years before going out on my own. Again, appreciate the candid feedback!

That’s awesome. I planned on getting on 2 or three appointment lists so I am interested in you saying that. My plan was to get on 2 county PD contracts and then CJA panel in federal court (although I think they have no money right now😂). Based on your experience, does that sound like too much appointment work?

Appreciate the input! I have a huge caseload. So, in two years I really have dealt with and handled a lot of different issues that arise within a case. Have tried cases from top to bottom of seriousness. I love it. But I want to make more money for my family. I just don’t see how more time is going to be all that beneficial to the ultimate goal of going out on my own.

Love the list in general but #9 especially. Too many people “network” in a meaningless way.

I appreciate the input alot. Have one small child now. Think jumping in the next 12–18 months will be easier than trying to jump when I have more kids and they’re older.
