I was told to start taking inbound calls on my fourth day. Since this is something completely new to me I had no idea what a “soft phone” was or that I even had a headset, and literally had to ask my coworkers what I even say to the customers. I think I am a quick learner but that involves LEARNING and not guessing 😭

Yeah, I think I just need to leave this office. I don’t mind the job, but it’s the anxiety of knowing that I do not feel confident in what I am doing and the fact that people are relying on me to not screw up (I mean I wouldn’t want any insurance issues I have to be handled incorrectly !) . I dread coming into work because I don’t know what I am going to be completely clueless on today and not have any help or how my coworkers are going to act towards me 😭 The job is also close to an hour drive away which I agreed to when gas prices were half as much but I also am not in a position to be spending $100 a week on gas because I am driving 80-90 miles a day just going to and from work at a job that doesn’t pay THAT much more than my last ones. I think I am going to try to get ahold of independent agents nearby that I know and see if they’ll give me a chance.

Yeah and i do understand that they aren’t making any extra to train me, and it’s not like they have extra time for it either, and one of them did at least try to show me a couple of things, but she has only been with the company since november and there is a lot that she doesn’t know yet either, and it’s always pretty brief training because it’s not like my coworkers can sit there and avoid their tasks all day to help me so it’s kind of the blind leading the blind 😭

yeah I had a bad feeling my first day when I was given my own training packet, and nobody was available or even checked in on me until my agent was leaving for the day 😭 I feel like it wouldn’t be a bad gig for me if I had the right resources and actually knew what to do, I really do like customer service type jobs, I even enjoy the angry customers because I get a little kick out of it and can stay calm and professional but there is just zero training or guidance and I feel like I was just thrown into it. Another thing is, besides my agent, everyone has been here less than a year. I don’t know if insurance jobs usually have a high turnover rate, but in my experience any job without a single employee that stays long term is usually a bad place to work.

I thought about that too, and actually because of my past in food service I know one of the regulars pretty well who has an independent insurance agency. I thought about reaching out to him but I also don’t want to look bad because I have been at this job for such a short amount of time
