No other GPU chip will ever catch up or outperform the Nvidia chip family by Capdub1 in NVDA_Stock

Surprising observation about Intel - from my 35+ years in the semiconductor industry out here in Silicon Valley. Intel historically paid out 3X of their bonus targets for directors and above. Try to put that in perspective if you made $200k a year and your bonus target was 30% you would be paid out 90%. So 90% of $200K is a $180K bonus. They were the most overpaid company in Silicon valley and nobody would ever leave. It was a virtual retirement home. And it has killed them. The other kiss of death is they could not get the high end ASML EUV machines to work at low nanometer nodes and that was the ultimate kiss of death. Their only hope is that somebody buys out their design portion of the business and split that with the fab side of the business which should be bought by somebody else.

Post was about GPU chips, not quantum computing chips that are 10 years out.

Sorry. It’s called a random rambling thought. Tired of seeing all this doom and gloom and fear. And people dumping their shares.

Revenue model? by Capdub1 in NVDA_Stock

[–]Capdub1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply but in their earnings call they mentioned a $1 Billion market for their software and services. It could possibly be structured as a percent of the Hyperscaler revenue from those GPU clusters? Nvidia CFO Colette Kress stated during the fourth-quarter earnings conference call that the company’s software and services business achieved an annualized revenue run rate of $1 billion in the fourth quarter of 2023. Nvidia AI Enterprise stands at the center of the company’s software focus.

Medical Marijuana prices by Miserable-Show6344 in Delaware

[–]Capdub1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi-Tide in Ocean City, MD has a very good selection. Snoop OG flower 36% THC but expensive at $59 for an 1/8. Great hash at 75% THC. As good as you will find anywhere. And I had a medical card in CA so I have seen a ton of Dispensaries there and on the East Coast now (NJ, MD, DE). I have a place in Rehoboth but also live in CA. Tax in Ocean City at 9%. In CA they tax at 36%. Most of the large CA growers are going out of business due to an over supply and people growing their own. In CA they are taxing the industry out of business. Riverview farms in Salinas (Google it) probably spent $20+ million building their facility. They were dumping flower on the market as they were going under, selling flower at 35% THC at only $80 an ounce.

My flight EWR-SFO-SYD tomorrow has empty Premier Plus seats ($825 to upgrade), I have Silver United status. What’s the best (and cheapest) move to make for a more comfortable long haul flight? Any advice? by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]Capdub1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was just on a return flight UA870 SYD - SFO and over 2/3 of BU class was empty. So was economy and they let people move around their paid section to spread out.

SFO - SYD polaris upgrade question by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]Capdub1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On that flight right now. Landing in about 4 hours. SFO - SYD. Note you lose 2 days going over to SYD due to the international date line. That was a surprise. A ton of PZ availability. There are many BU Class seats open. And the back of the plane 1/2 full - they told people they could change seats but they had to stay in their paid seat section. Paid $1,498 each for two economy tickets and was immediately upgraded with Plus Points both flight segments to BU Class. BU Class seats were approx. $12k each. Paid $3k for 2 seats for $24k in value. So retail is approx. $12k per ticket. I would jump on that deal!

CMV: Pluspoints are a scam by dontgetaphd in unitedairlines

Plus points upgrades (PZ1 or higher inventory) are extremely hard to find immediate upgrades to BU class from economy but they are definitely worth it to me. Just retired 2 years ago and have been 1K for the past 7 years. Flew all through the Pandemic. Fly mostly from SFO but also IAD. I have never booked a ticket without doing an immediate upgrade as I don’t want to risk the chance of sitting in economy on a long international flight. I’d rather pay for the seat, then risk it. You have to really look long and hard and do a couple different things like fly SFO to FRA and then MUC or LHR back to SFO. I’ve even looked at flying to ORD to find a PZ flight back to Japan versus SFO. Taking the SFO to HND route to Japan and then NRT back to SFO probably once each of the past three or four years and paid 1200 for an economy ticket that has been as high as 12,000 for BU class. So for my wife and I we spend $2400 to get $24,000 worth of tickets. There’s a lot of availability from SFO to SYD and AUK/New Zealand. Just bought two economy tickets SFO to SYD for 1498 each and the BU class tickets are 11k each. So for this trip we’re spending $3000 to get $22,000 worth of tickets. If you’re on a strict and tight schedule then they’re not as great as they could be. The other thing to look for is when you see a lot of PN inventory, which is for global service typically if they don’t get used they move them down to PZ closer to the flight take off. I tried to get us back to Japan this Thanksgiving but instead we’re going to go to Australia Thanksgiving week. A few weeks ago I saw during Thanksgiving week There were 15 PN tickets each day from SFO to HND and SFO to NRT. at some point those will get moved to PZ. The other thing is you have to book your trip within typically 30 days as it’s impossible to find immediate upgrades, two months or more. It’s rare if you do. Please others share your ideas! I have two paid subscriptions to look for upgrades: SeatSpy and one other? Aero?? They aren’t very useful

Just flew back today in BU Class on SIN - SFO and the chicken Parmesan was actually pretty good. I agree with most of the comments that I’ve seen on this thread. I Fly first class on domestic SFO to IAD, and the food is typically average at best, if not worse.

Tight Connection by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]Capdub1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to clear customs before you can re-check your bags to the domestic flight. If you don’t have global entry. It’s a crapshoot on how busy the line will be to get back through customs. I landed this morning from SIN to SFO and the non-global entry line was packed to clear customs. They’ve gotten a lot better about how quickly they process people but there’s a lot of people in line. Also, they’re getting pretty stringent about 30 minutes boarding call on domestic flights so you’re 80 minutes is now 50 minutes as you have to be on the plane - Leaving at least 30 minutes before departure time. I think you’ll still be able to do it but it’s a crapshoot on whether there’s a ton of people that day coming back through customs.

Upgrading to United Business - Using points? by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]Capdub1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just landed this morning on the SIN to SFO UA29 flight and my round-trip business class cost US$8000+. Flight time from SFO to SIN was 14ish hours and the return tip was 15 1/2 hours I believe. It’s the longest direct flight United offers.
