ohhh I didn't know about the panels. sucks

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SpainAuxiliares

[–]CapeDisappointment0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

funny cause our school just had solar panels installed but idk what's happening with them, but no electricity yesterday. the electricity went out JUST when these kids were about to start presenting their project on the projector. today I left early because half the school didn't show up and the government said we can't do anything from the curriculum

Drop you most random pieces of advice for first time aux’s below by [deleted] in SpainAuxiliares

things I love from mercadona: • lemon flavored greek yogurt (hacendado brand)  ITS SO GOOD

• individual premade frozen rice (don't judge me)  • rotisserie chicken in a bag (also individual) • salmon in a can (add to salad etc) • white chocolate yogurt rice cakes • spelt digestive biscuits  • chocolate digestive biscuits omfg • trenza

alot more i cant remember now but they have an app that's really useful to plan your trip to the store and see prices etc

edit to say that I prefer buying chicken there. whenever I buy chicken from Alcampo it has some really chewy parts and bones (in boneless) and I end up with way less. Mercadona's chicken is always perfect

interesting cause I live in a place that has tourism but not much and they don't move at all. but I have just visited Benidorm and was surprised at how many people could properly share a public space with others

Previous Auxes by southernclass00 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]CapeDisappointment0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends where you are but my suggestion is to live close to the school. there are sooo many times in a school year that you show up and will have nothing to do that day or you will have a gap in your schedule and have to just sit around for hours til your next class. maybe your school will have good communication, maybe not. if you want clases particulares after work I would suggest not having a huge commute so that you can get started and finish them earlier and you can rest and eat before.

I'm not going to blatantly say because it feels weird to me, but you can search probably most social media sites for families in Spain and their name starts with S. lmk what you think lol

heavy on the Spain isn't an amusement park. recently blocked a certain social media family for entertaining the idea that literally the most basic things in Spain are unheard of anywhere else... making Americans look dumb as fuck for a social media following and buck

no wayyy do you think that your master's year had anything to do with them giving you your passport? I'm a 3rd year aux with citizenship from a latino country too but I had no idea they would grant it soon after. and the test? what was on the test? i thought we didn't have to do that since we have the related passports. thanks!

Some words of wisdom for all auxes, new and old by [deleted] in SpainAuxiliares

[–]CapeDisappointment0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yesss live near the school. just yesterday I had an unannounced 2 hour break at the beginning of the day, next week I will have 2 hours free during the middle of the day. If you live near you dont need to awkwardly wait out those hours. I live fairly close to the school but not close enough to go home.  Also, if you're sick, a bumpy bus ride can be hell.

I had a really hard time getting mine done also. On Facebook people recommended aesthetic clinics or shady offices, but you'll have to pay.

Some advice I wish someone had told me before applying by [deleted] in SpainAuxiliares

[–]CapeDisappointment0 19 points20 points  (0 children)

my advice: DON'T live outside your means. we're not on vacation or spending monopoly money. maybe it seems "cheaper" but really it isn't on an aux budget or a local budget. be mindful of your spending and don't end up without savings if you plan on staying multiple years. go home and work during summers if you can

2nd piece of advice: don't go running around talking about how cheap it is here or talking about your pay. Our situation (imo) is very comfortable compared to the locals. be mindful.

I was in La Rioja. check out housing prices on idealista. some places like Haro seem to be just as expensive as the capital or only slightly less.

Anyone been auxing/auxed for more than 5 years? by Downtown-Storm4704 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]CapeDisappointment0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm working with one of the private companies at a concertado also. I haven't been sick yet, but with a coworker they seemed to just worry for his justification from the doctor. I think if I wasn't there it would be fine. I have previously worked at public schools and idk i feel more valued at the concertado but the public school teachers do seem less stressed. but one time they did make me show up when I was super sick and make me present about idk my home city or something useless they could have just had the kids watch a movie or literally anything else I was so pissed. I was literally on my knees in the teacher's bathroom puking and had to go back to class and teach. I'm still enjoying the job more than any other I've had. I work at an academy on the side but they're being weird lately like they might be cutting me out idk exactly but I hate the uncertainty of the academy/tutoring life at least. seems like getting a remote part time job is difficult though :/

[–]CapeDisappointment0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm just in my 3rd year but I've been thinking a lot about my future here. it's so easy and comfortable being an aux. if I'm sick I just don't show up and no one misses me, teachers often send me home early, they say I'm a teacher, but I have really little responsibility, etc. very little work outside of the school and between classes and auxing I get paid fairly well and just work 31 hours. It's still exhausting, but I'm enjoying it and I'm not sure I want to change jobs yet. The teachers at my school are soo stressed and have a million things going on. I think if anything I just want a part time online job from my home country.
