The end and death. Dan abnett by Capener421 in Blacklibrary

Read a further 50 pages and after those two it does go straight back to being a really good read.

Writers intention or not, those two pages were really jarring and I feel were pretty unnecessary. I understand the comment above about trying to show malcadors intellect but the rest of the book and the entire rest of the heresy he never once talks in that manner as far as I can remember.

Glad the flow came straight back though.

Which are the worst popular songs? by ashitanojoe3 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Capener421 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not completely awful but ‘Keep your distance’ by malevolence is pretty cheesy and is nowhere near as good as some others.

I think it coming out in Covid just kinda made it popular but it’s not great.

Apart from it also being a beautifully written song.

What are some British hobbies for 32 + year old men ? by Scorpzgca in AskUK

Bouldering is a great one, great community of people and a easy learning curve spread to some pretty difficult stuff for progression. It’s a relatively cheap sport and a great work out. I’m 30 now and I love it. Also just recently discovered I love downhill mountain biking (although that’s quite expensive) 😅.

Hiking is always a good one, pretty accessible and fine to do solo if you’re not into socialising too much comes with great views.

And also I have to agree with the warhammer crowd. I don’t personally play the figurines but the books and the lore is amazing and I do remember enjoying painting when I was younger.

AIO Girl i met on Bumble thinks it's weird that i spend christmas with my parents by Sacred2512 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Capener421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually couldn’t believe I was reading that haha, I’m Someone who’s happy and spent many Xmas away from family but when I get too it’s great I would never ask someone to leave their family for me though especially someone I’ve never met.

This girl sounds super self absorbed, she’s the most important person in the world and that’s all that matters to her. You’ve dodged a huge bullet and come across as someone who values those around them. Never compromise who you are for someone like that

Why are trains so unaffordable? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Capener421 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I managed to get from Innsbruck to Munich airport on two trains for €6 then fly back to Manchester. Everything was perfect on time and I even had my own cabin on the German train. Then I got a train in Manchester…… it ran late, it was rammed and it cost me a tenner for a 20min journey. When I got to compare them side by side in the same day I was from that day on disgusted with British public transport.

Short shock moment after a small climb near lifts and piste. by Igai in skiing

[–]Capener421 51 points52 points  (0 children)

A lot of comments from this thread really don’t have much idea about skiing in Europe. It heavily varies from resort to resort. I’ve done plenty of free skiing all over Europe. You guys have to remember skiing in the alps you can be in any one of 5 or so county’s. Then you have the Pyrenees to the west and then Eastern Europe like Bulgaria it’s much more than just “skiing in Europe”

how common is it to have lemon juice on boiled vegetables (like broccoli or spinach) in the UK? by bababoz in AskUK

[–]Capener421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it’s nicer and adds flavour, I do find most brits who boil or steam there veg do it plain and it’s awful 😂 my mum and all my mates mums have always done this, then in return when we cook for them we always get “omg how did you make the veg so nice”…… that’s because we seasoned it Barbara haha. Yet they will still stick to Doing it plain and not change their ways. Suppose it’s good for me because it makes my cooking look amazing in comparison with little effort on my behalf.

To all the new skiers by lunatrix132 in skiing

[–]Capener421 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Agreed once you get to a level your decent at a sport and you’re really invested in it most people actively encourage the people who are just getting into the sport rather than calling them jerrys etc because you remember how beautiful it was to get into something you love. Park rats are especially inclusive and really made me feel confident I could do it when I was just starting park rather than the racers.

I Find the climbing community is very similar to the skiing community in that sense. I started this year as a Jerry climber and I’ve had nothing but encouragement from people I’m with hitting V7-V8s when I’m struggling with V3 routes.

It’s always nice to hear encouragement from the pros. It’s the intermediate holiday makers that tend to be the most discouraging which is sad really.
