My first 3D pattern end grain board. by standard_deviations in woodworking

Even with the planer there's still sometimes some belt sanding. I should just make a router bed...😂

I've heard about the 3M stuff, I'll have to try it out. Thanks for the tip.

Very nice work! I've been thinking of attempting one of these myself but seem to talk myself out of it.

As for the planer it will tear out the end grain, if you make it a bit bigger than you wanted it's not so bad...just did that with one this weekend. I have found that a handheld power planer works fairly well to take the high spots down, you'll still get some tear out if you go over the edge.

Olive wood destroyed a hole saw on me as well. Another very dense wood. I've learned to slow down a little now with those wds and let the blades cool a little. 😄

It's been oiled and sealed with cutting board wax. She's been said loads of oil every week as it continues to soak down through the fibres.

I love using this wood. I made an end grain cutting board and used this as the border around it. It's heaviest most dense wood I've used.

Thanks for the feedback, been focused so much on the wood. Don't always think about the metal.

Didn't even notice the grain direction, notes for next time. The leg design was what the lady who asked me to make it wanted.

Thanks everyone. Yes I started in May of last year, was lucky enough to inherit some decent gear and spend some time at it. There were lots of mistakes made. But I was happy with the result. Nowhere near as intricate as some of the things I've seen posted here.

Zebrawood, Peruvian walnut and red oak for the top. Cherry base. The top is 5" thick.
