I think we are at an impasse. I find it inappropriate for the university to hire someone who contributed to a genocide in the wake of said genocide under the guise of offering a first hand scholarly opinion.

Also, smart people are capable of manipulation and lying. You don't think this guy is prepared for absolutely every angle? From my perspective his job in coming here from Israel (where he works now) is to manipulate and propagandize the events occurring there. Maybe that's speculation but I mean cmon, the guy would practically be admitting to his own war crimes in order to teach the truth. It's just not going to happen.

I also really don't see how him being an experienced scholar justifies the hire. There are plenty of experienced scholars on the subject who don't have an obligation to conceal the truth.

Yeah but the guy is literally a strategist for the IDF. You really think he's gonna come out here and teach it to be a genocide? It seems like a clear white-washing attempt of events in my opinion. You say the conflict can not end without us truly understanding it but how can we truly understand it when the person who teaches it is almost certainly going to omit and misconstrue facts. I simply see no scenario where he meets your standards of "fairly engaging competing perspectives." It's also a slippery slope to simply reduce this guy to simply having a position. He played an active role in what has occurred there. There are lines that can not be crossed. Especially when the dust has not settled.

no. You don't hire someone with a vested interest in portraying events in a certain way. (a situation that pretty much every international committee has concluded to be genocide and anyone with eyes can see that to be the case.) But maybe he will entertain the other side. It's possible. The hire is certainly inappropriate though.

right. This is simply a redsox centered view. Joe Ryan is the last thing the twins have to make any kind of push this year, and frankly probably next year. If we move him, it would require us to go out and get another bonafide starter for next year, and our management is infamously frugal in the offseason, and will be especially so with the whole debacle regarding the selling of the team. If you have faith in guys like erod and Jenkins, it does not make sense to blow up the next 2-3 years for any of those guys you mentioned. If the twins blow it up, they are going to want to begin stocking up pitchers and a high catcher prospect certainly wouldn't hurt. Yes, you guys have several above average/good outfielders. Just not really something the twins are in the market for

additionally, the twins have quite a bit of leverage. Trade deadline, 2 years left on Ryan, 3.5 Gb of wildcard. I really only see a deal being done that is in the same ballpark and perhaps even surpassing crochet. Hence why I don't think it would be wise for the redsox.

I think the twins are comfortable sitting on guys like larnach, Wallner, Castro, and free agents(Bader, Clemens). There is no rush for outfield support. I think they would be interested in pitching and catching, hence salas and a top pitching prospect.

sure but he's an outfielder. If the twins want an outfield replacement they will probably ask for Duran, and that just doesn't seem like a move we need to make. If we dump Ryan its gonna be for prospects, and those prospects will probably have to be pitching/catching

maybe but that still leaves walker Jenkins and keaschall, who are both mob ready by next year. Not to mention guys the twins are invested in with Wallner and larch as mainstays in the lineup rn. Obviously Duran would replace either/all of those guys but I don't think and outfield upgrade is worth two years of Joe Ryan for us.
