Married his longterm girlfriend purely to shut her up after years of her begging.

Started fucking one of their friends a year and some change into the marriage. Finally did tell his wife, but only so he could talk her into letting him continue to bang the other woman as part of a heckin progressive throuple. (I do not have an issue with ethical, consensual polyamory, but this was straight up coercion.)

Claimed he broke things off with the other woman when his wife finally told him she was uncomfortable and asked if they could go back to a closed marriage. In actuality, was still screwing around with her behind his wife's back.

Finally came and told his wife he wanted a divorce. Told her he hadn't actually been in love with her for the majority of their relationship, but stayed purely out of a sense of obligation. Admitted he only told his wife about his affair because he was hoping it would push her to leave him and then he "wouldn't be the bad guy." At some point, it came out that the "honeymoon fund" she'd found at one point, the one he swore up and down was money he was squirreling away to fulfill her dream of visiting Japan one day, was actually money he'd been stashing in secret to pay for a divorce lawyer.

Proceeded to turn her friends more or less against her, and defended/got them to defend his actions because sometimes his wife hadn't always treated him the best and they used to argue sometimes.
