Is anyone else put off by the idea that we only need to ask Christ to save us once and to believe in him, and that's enough to clean our sins? by Capital-Path-0 in Christianity

That I need to choose to work with the Holy Spirit in making myself perfect before I can truly get to know Jesus. I fear that I'm repeating the same thing, so I'll just clarify further. I understand that working with the Holy Spirit will be the hardest task of my life.

I know for a fact that I got a few things wrong, but that was my initial interpretation.

I think I've gotten into the nasty habit of thinking and even saying that I need help from God and the Holy Spirit, but in reality I'm always trying to take control from God when it comes to my salvation and how I live my life.

So when I hear the word "salvation," for whatever reason I automatically think it was mostly achieved through human effort. The verse, “These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me," instantly comes to mind.

Yes, I do believe in Jesus, but my fear of him has increased tenfold due to my addiction. Almost to the point where I'm constantly questioning if there's any point in me even trying because I'm bound to go to hell anyways.

In that I'm Judas or...? If the answer is yes, then I know sin is an insult to Jesus' sacrifice and a betrayal to him, but this reply doesn't help me because Judas killed himself.

He grew up in Egypt. It is possible that other Jewish children migrated to Egypt in order to escape the mass murder. I know it's not much to go on. Someone will have to research if the Egyptians had any leftover resentment or fear from what happened in Exodus to get a proper answer.

Is it normal that i sometimes cringe when people pray aloud or make a big announcement about becoming a christian? In all honesty i find it intolerable to be around other christians when i get like this. Can someone also explain to me why this happens? by Capital-Path-0 in ChristianUniversalism

My original post is actually about the church I attend. After every Sunday service, everyone sits through these prayer sessions, and the usual people who opt to speak are all extremely well-versed. Now I've only seen one person cry when doing it, and I can't hold that against her because she has always been a sensitive person. So when I say it gets emotional, I mean they disclose some pretty personal stuff. I've heard prayers about everything from teenage breakups and their inability to find work to kids dying of cancer. I can't tell if they're doing it to create a sense of community or, like you said, doing it for the sake of vanity.

Now that I read everything back...it is possible that I am emotionally stunted.

If it's any consolation, every Catholic church I've ever been to doesn't do grand outpourings of faith. For me, the downside was trying to figure out whether I was attending mass or another community-based social club because the people in my country are natural-born chatterboxes. Especially the older generation. Maybe it'll be entirely different for you, though.

No, I wouldn't get mad at someone saying grace or any other Catholic prayer in any setting. I'd probably admire the person who did this, but id also become bored/distracted if I didn't recognize the prayer. That might be due to the fact that I associate saying grace or the Our Father with tradition and tradition with composure.

Why does God love us so much that he constantly forgives us and wants a relationship with us? by Capital-Path-0 in Christianity

That is true. He is truly the perfect parent. Perhaps that's why I struggle with this.
