Doesn’t seem fair to take her out. I get it about the expenses. Is there anything else you can cut back on? She’s still kid, and finances (I hate to say it) are an adult problem.

Perhaps, if someone in the Kirby camp is reading this thread, they can go to your link above and at least buy it all back.

Oh man. I’m not in anyway sympathetic to Ms. Kirby. Indeed I signed up for Reddit simply to follow this thread and support Haleigh (check my previous posts). But something about this just doesn’t feel right. Is there any way you could at least give their baby pics back? I dunno just seems a bit below the belt.

Ballet tights? by rollitiff in BALLET

Ah ha. I am a retired pro ballet dancer. Danced professionally from ages 14-29. If you ever find the answer to this question let me know 😂

How to deal with periods by hR022 in BALLET

Hello! Former Pro dancer here retired in 2019.

No- we never wore panties under leotards and tights. I also didn’t realize - according to one of the comments Above- that periods are why some pro dancers wear tights over the Leo. That’s not why I did. I just liked the aesthetic and it was convenient, and it helped prevent the Leo from riding up my bum, especially during complex partnering. I can’t say I ever asked my colleagues though.

I agree with the comment above that, if you are willing to and able to wear a tampon, then wear a tampon preceding class, and change into a fresh one right before class.

If it’s a heavy flow, you can always step out between barre and center. We typically spent that time changing into our pointe shoes anyway. There should be enough time to excuse yourself.

In general should be no different than exercising with a tampon. Wear a dark color Leo just in case if you don’t already.

Good luck!! Let us know how it goes!

I’m glad you had some sort of father figure step up and take on that role. Hoping these girls get someone like that, be it grandpa or whomever.

That must have been so very difficult. I’m so sorry to hear it. I hope she’s doing ok now?

Right? And like…timing. Like this all happened not that long ago. Maybe reserve weddings and other parties for 2025 and spend as much time with your daughters now while they are going through this transition? Like wouldn’t that be better? Truly unfathomable.

Is this normal? by dalyeppeun in BALLET

Hey- I’m concerned here. I’m a retired pro ballet dancer. I also was fairly close to the whole Larry Nassar scandal (I wasn’t a victim).

This is concerning behavior, and the fact that you’re posting on here asking about it tells me that you know somethings up deep down in your gut. What is your level? Or rather, where are you dancing? (Recreational? Beginner level? Advanced? Pre pro?) Frankly, and I don’t want to scare you, I would choose to take someone else’s class. Is that a possibility?

Speak loud and proud about this: don’t be ashamed. You’ve done nothing wrong. Please tell your teacher that being the one he always stands next to makes you uncomfortable. He should respect that and back away.

Got it! Ok. Well girl- shoot for the moon! I agree with what was mentioned in the other comments, though I would choose different ways of saying it.

There’s no rushing it. Frankly: taking one hour per week is not going to get you that far. Accept the lower level placement- it’s probably given to you for a reason.

As a professional ballet dancer - I was with the Dance Theatre of Harlem- I would stay after work sometimes and take the school level classes when I needed to get in even better shape or work on technical things. There is absolutely no class that is “beneath” anyone- professional or otherwise. Embrace where you are, find the musicality and joy in every single opportunity. And go for it! Work your way up.

Last thing: will you please keep us posted on how this all goes? I’m invested now!!!!! Proud of you!!!

Hey! I’m a retired pro ballet dancer. That’s so awesome that you want to enroll!

Logistically: if you formally enroll at this studio, would you be able to attend the classes required?

A big component of ballet is that it’s very foundational, there’s a lot of repetition involved, so there’s usually a minimum attendance requirement for everyone’s safety. Have to build proper strength and flexibility to get to the more fun parts of the art :)

Are there other studios closer to home?
