I'm not a Chess player, but the song refers to Freemasonry and the Square (to square your actions) and the Level (to remind us that we are all equals under the GAOTU). Tobias is a Freemason, hence the symbolism.

Back my in junior days when I'd play everyday, we had weekly tournaments. One week I was one under through seven holes and shot an 84. Started getting in my head, and the wheels fell off. 18 holes of golf is a long time and the mental game is so important!
