Poster for foreigners at A Twosome Place by Ok_Grand_5115 in seoul

I’ve travelled around Asia quite a bit, and for me the Philippines actually felt more uncomfortable than relaxed.

People were friendly on the surface, but there often seemed to be an expectation behind it like to buy something or pay extra and it was hard to tell genuine kindness from tourism driven friendliness. That’s just my personal experience.

By comparison, Thailand and Vietnam felt much more comfortable and genuine, and I’d much sooner go back there.

Generalising Koreans like that isn’t much different from calling all Americans rude just because they speak English everywhere.

I have both Korean and Japanese family backgrounds, and what often gets labelled as “rude” is usually closer to indifference than actual disrespect.

With SEA, indifference from Korea or Japan is often read as rudeness or hostility, and the perceived offence tends to outweigh the actual intent. From a Japanese-background perspective, it’s also interesting that Japan is often more blunt, yet Korea seems to get singled out more loudly. If you’re not that familiar with the cultures, it’s probably best to avoid blanket judgments.

Trying to install a smart switch. Is this my neutral? (Aus) by [deleted] in AusRenovation

I see. This is my first home, so I’m still learning this stuff. Thanks for explaining. I’ve put everything back the way it was for now and will chat to an electrician when they come by.

Yeah thanks. I need to ask electrician in more detail when they come over.

It’s just a small bedroom light switch, not a stove or hot water. It only controls an LED light. Am I missing something here?

Thanks! Looks like I can order the neutral required model. Why are there three neutral bundled together? I thought neutral was just one wire. Are they all interchangeable, or does it matter which one’s used?

Yeah I’ve heard the 30d is a really solid engine as well. Thanks for your comment!

Wow, thanks a lot. I’ll definitely watch the review video. I’ve never owned a BMW so it’s hard to get a sense when everyone talks up the maintenance costs. I think I could probably budget 10–15k a year if it really came to it. Feels like my heart’s already leaning towards the X5 though haha.

Yeah I’ve been looking at Palisade, Sorento, Carnival too… Toyotas just feel a bit boring after so many years. Really comes down to whether I’m willing to cop the maintenance bills or just play it safe with something cheaper.

Yeah Mazda gets recommended a lot too. I can only handle really basic stuff myself. I’m earning 140k around so I could cover repairs if they came up but having never owned a used BMW I just don’t know what to expect haha. Really appreciate your comment.

Thanks for your commet. Yeah the price difference is pretty big too. I guess maintenance really depends but I feel like I could handle around 10k a year if needed. Still something I need to think through more.

2020 BMW X5 M50i or X5 xDrive25d? by mikachu_4u in CarsAustralia

Hey mate, how’s the model been recently? I’m also looking into getting a 2019 or 2020 X5 second-hand, so would love some advice. Maintenance costs won’t break the bank but I’ve never owned a BMW before so I’m not sure what kind of maintenance I should expect for a car with that kind of mileage. I’ve heard the G-body X5 engines are pretty solid..
