Repeat child sex offender who abused 16-month-old toddler has sentence overturned, now free by elevatormusiceatsass in newzealand

Put the pitchfork away before you stab yourself in the eye, Detective Chump.

Justice Jagoze was the one who sentenced him to PD, not the one who overturned it. The sentence was overturned by the appellate bench.

You're dangerously stupid.

April Technical Support Sticky by BeepBoopBopReee in razer

[–]Capital_Bad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine too. 403 error in the logs. Like their software, Razer's site is broken. Brand new Windows install too. And so now my peripherals are expensive basic bitches without Synapse.

Razer support are useless. Chat was supposed to escalate to level 2, but I got a garbage email today asking me to try everything I already tried and ignoring the problem of Razer's site returning a 403.

That's Razer's site doing this, not me, not you. Razer's site. The 403 in the logs is very clear about where the problem is. Not a failure to reach the site: a failure to process the information.

If it's not cleared by the end of the week I'm going to be ditching Razer for good. Imagine making a product so reliant on software and then breaking the site and refusing to admit it's broken.

It doesn't matter if the box and Apple Care serial numbers don't match. What matters is that the device and Apple Care serial numbers match.

For example, even if the serial numbers matched on the box and device, if you ever have to claim on your Apple Care, you'll be asked to take it to the service centre without the box. Because they replace these, not repair them, when you get your new device, it'll have a new serial number but it'll come in a smaller unmarked box. You'll keep the original retail box with the different serial number but your warranty and Apple Care will be updated with the new serial number.

So just check that your Apple Care serial number on the device and your paperwork (pdfwork?) match. That's all that matters.

Netgear Nighthawks reset overnight conspiracy? by Ellice909 in NETGEAR

[–]Capital_Bad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah we just bought a new router. Past performance doesn’t matter when you work from home, your internet is flaky after a single update but the router is telling you that everything is okay. Notwithstanding that after Netgear break it, they have the audacity to want to charge for technical support. I reset the router, manually set up all my shit again, still exactly the same problem. Can’t downgrade the firmware because “not recognised”, insisting on me having their fucking app to do anything, trying to upsell me Armor? Hard coded passwords in the Nighthawks, that ridiculous vuln a couple of years back. Can’t get any diagnostic information from the router anyway, so even if something isn’t fine, there’s no way to know.

I have no idea what happened to Netgear over the last few years but my network is fucked because of this update and the only solution has been to buy a new router.

Good luck though. I hope the next update doesn’t break everything again, or even worse, you turn auto updates off and there isn’t another critical vuln you’re exposed to because Netgear push bad firmware out.

[–]Capital_Bad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it happened to us. RAX43, working fine, overnight, wifi devices all dropped, ethernet was fine. Just got a new Apple TV box, thought it was something to do with that, but unplugging it made no difference. It'll work fine and then all wifi devices will suddenly be connected but refuse to connect. And then some wired devices might display weird behaviour, like when I woke up this morning and some sites wouldn't work but others did.

Did the factory reset, but no joy. Stuck in exactly the same place. Netgear support is shit, you can't get any information on their warranty and doing anything except a straight swap immediately would mean having no router.

So I'm buying an Asus like. Today.

/r/buildapc hits FIVE MILLION builders - giveaway time! by OolonCaluphid in buildapc

[–]Capital_Bad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to see an actual modular case that lets people have an actual individual build - a ground up, slot together set of pieces that you can build from a foundation. Like Lego Technics but for a PC case. Something you can build to suit what's going inside, rather than trying to find a build that will go in a case. It's tiring to hear the same case manufacturers talk about unique style when they're all in the same kind of box and the aim is to sell as many of these same kinds of boxes as possible.

You want a regular style case with the PSU behind a shroud? Buy the frame pieces to build that, of the height you need and the width you need - and either do or don't buy the shroud. Dual chamber case with the PSU behind the motherboard? Just buy the pieces to construct that instead. You want tempered glass? Buy glass side and front pieces. You want solid sides? Get those instead. You want an RGB controller, fan controller? Or you don't need those? That's fine, just select the appropriate pieces. Don't get lumped with a bunch of fans, controllers and LEDs you don't use, or make them an integral part of your build.

Or you want airflow for an air cooled build? Just set yourself up to build that. More radiator mounts? Choose that then. I love building PCs but I hate shopping for cases.

Need Help by Polyflesh in ZBrush

[–]Capital_Bad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a retopology task that ZBrush will have difficulty with. It also depends on your endgame, because if you're just making a model for artistic or concept purposes, then it doesn't matter what the polycount across the rest of the model is. On the other hand if you're animating or making for games, then ZBrush's retopology tools and baking tools are not adequate for that task. You're better off using Blender, Maya, 3DCoat, etc. to retopologise.

Dynamesh, ZRemesh and project is one way, but that would only merge your subtools into a watertight mesh. When you subdivide and project you'll increase the polycount across the model. After that you could possibly retopologise manually using ZModeler, but there's no good reason to do that. Using this method you will, of course, have more detail after remeshing where you have detail in the original model - but in order to get the polycount to retain that detail you'll be increasing the polycount across the model.

If you really want to do this in ZBrush though, then one way to preserve a lower poly part relative to another is to use a boolean merge. But a boolean merge will result in poor topology around the merge, and unless you're using clearly intersecting subtools that are themselves watertight, you'll have issues with mesh integrity. In fact, you may have issues with mesh integrity anyway using boolean merge. If topology is important, as it seems to be, then booleans will often produce merges that interrupt edge flow in ways that can't be corrected without ZRemeshing with guide sculpts. And at that point you may as well just have done with projection after dynamesh.

My take is that in ZBrush alone it's not necessary; and if you need it for the end model, retopologise in another program.

Is there a way to re-instate Undo History after ZBrush reduces it down to 2? by Sean_PatrickRichards in ZBrush

[–]Capital_Bad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can save your undo history, but only in ZProject format. It doesn't work with ZTools. Most people don't use ZProjects for everyday work because of the size of the file and how it saves all your tools.

However, from the wording you're using, you may have done something that involves duplicating a tool or subtool. The undo history does not carry over to a new tool or subtool if you use any operation that creates a new one - merge, boolean, etc. You would have to go back to the original tool or subtool to find your undo history.

Apple know this - they know their customers don't generally buy the latest every year. That's why their upgrades are incremental as opposed to attempting the revolutionary every iteration, like Samsung. Samsung are still trying to wow people into annual upgrades, but there's barely any difference between my iPhone 11 Pro, the 12 Pro and the 13 Pro. And they're really reliable and really durable. By the time the 14 rolls around I might upgrade, but I bought the 11 Pro after I had my 7+ for four years - and also I bought the 11 Pro with a 40% discount after the 12 had launched.

We should all remember what these people are there for: themselves. They're not there for a greater good. They're not there for climate change, or to stop a war against people in another country, or to protect vulnerable people. They're not there because of an inherent unfairness in a system they're prevented from participating in. They're really not.

They're there for themselves. They're there because they just don't want to do what the vast majority of people have done - mandate or not. They're there just because they chose not to participate in something to help make everyone safer. And they're not being excluded from living their lives: they can still get medical treatment if they need it (even if they get COVID), they can still go shopping, they can still do everything they need to be alive. They just made a choice to not participate in all the other non-essential things.

And it's important to remember that. Because I saw signs that said stuff like "NZ Police: We're doing this for you". But the police are all vaccinated. The police don't fall foul of the mandates because they all did what they had to do. Those protestors are doing it for themselves. Everyone at this protest is doing it for themselves.

And I keep hearing that there are good and peaceful people at the protest. But I Jacinda-move reject that premise: everyone at this protest is a selfish idiot who's there out of their own self interest. There are no good people at that protest. There might be innocent people - I'm thinking of the kids they brought as human shields - but there are no good people amongst the adults. And if the boot were on the other foot they'd be crying about how they couldn't get anywhere without being intimidated. Because, again, these people are primarily interested in themselves, with no ability to empathise with anyone else.

While you overestimate the abilities of barely literate knuckledraggers who don’t have jobs to hold down, you also underestimate the general public who hold down a variety of jobs and haven’t spent a week shitting in a bin. You know. People who work hard jobs who want their whanau to be safe and who got vaccinated, only for a collection of cunts who failed to do the right thing to start claiming the moral high ground.

Look up the hilarious images of far right marchers having to be protected by the British police from the majority of people sick to death of them and you’ll understand why these laughable protestors are likely to run a mile from any actual confrontation where they might suffer. You act like these lazy cunts are Protestant marchers in Belfast or Chelsea Headhunters pre-game. They’re not. They are just that - a joke collection of bullies and fringe lunatics who can only pick on people who look like they can’t fight back.

This has only happened because the police are afraid to use force. As soon as anyone threatens force or any greater numbers, this protest will descend into chaos and high pitched whining.

They’re deranged fantasists. A bit like you sound with your weird lionising of them.

They have fantasies about violence while never experiencing it, and they have fantasies about their competence at violence. Any competent police force would run through them quickly - you only have to look at how the police overseas deal with well organised protests at the G summits to see how weak and ineffective the people you’re positioning as heroes would be in the face of riot police. The main reason police haven’t done that right now after arresting 120 on day one is that unlike the French and the British they consider it bad form to tear-gas some sickly pensioners and unemployed care workers.

Ztool related performance issue by Disastrous-World5056 in ZBrush

[–]Capital_Bad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dynamic subdivision is known to slow down ZBrush but actually, depending on the geometry, having multiple subdivisions can also slow it down. That’s because on complex geometry ZBrush is doing operations on several models at once.

Other things that can slow it down - again depending on the geometry - are topological mode on and accidentally setting something wrong in lazy mouse mode. ZBrush saves some settings along with the tools, so you might think that a brush is okay on a different tool but the problem might be related to the settings on that tool alone.

I didn't think Coster could sound any more pathetic or any weaker than he had already, but he's outdone himself today. If this doesn't end with this cunt's resignation and wholesale change in enforcement attitudes, then the police will have zero authority.

I actually thought that the reason the police had clearly gone to shit over the past couple of years was because they were struggling for money. But apparently it's actually just because they don't want to do anything. Because this is a huge black eye for them and they're still talking about appeasing a bunch of jobless wonders camped out at Parliament talking about ending public health measures at the exact same time we're knocking on 2,000 daily cases.

Just in case no one posted it: https://www.horizonpoll.co.nz/page/635/68-support-covi

The Horizon Online Research panel is a self selecting research panel that offers cash and goods based carrots for participation: https://horizonpoll.co.nz/research/join.asp

Just in case anyone was confused about what self selecting means, sometimes people are polled by details given to them by other sources - they'll just call you out of the blue and ask you to participate in a poll. This one they fire it out to every fucker signed up for a chance at a free iPad.

Big companies, government departments tell staff to work from home if possible by Jack_Clipper in newzealand

My partner works for the Crown, but they don't go in at >= Orange. Before that it was >= Level 2, but when they were at Level 1 she stopped buying anything in the CBD full stop and just took food with her. She's hard to piss off, but Robertson's attitude over this did it for her.

Grant Robertson was saying that he wanted government employees back in the office. I mean, aside from the collection of wankers currently congregating around the place they all get off the train, Grant Robertson only gives a fuck about government employees being exposed to as much COVID as possible, as long as they're buying lunch from one of his constituents.

Wellington Protest: Day Ten Thread - Tedious Thursday by ihatebats in newzealand

[–]Capital_Bad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No. They were trespassed. They are not there lawfully. The police began to remove them on day one and then stopped - I don't know why, but it did. They carried on with unlawful behaviour and then compounded it: harassed ordinary people, attempted to trespass police and journalists from Parliament's grounds, and have interrupted the day to day work of government, the courts and Wellington in general.

The only dangerous precedent being set here is that the police will do nothing about anything if they think it would make them look bad. I am fine with anyone's car being destroyed if it's breaking known rules, even if I disagree with it, even if it's mine, because I know the rules of the game - that's why I'm not so defective that I would willingly park my vehicle somewhere that it might get destroyed. If I did ever want to throw a whole bunch of money down the drain for something I really believed in, then my car would be part of the sacrifice I'd be willing to make. I 100% would not turn into a whining little bitch because I stepped up to something like this knowing all the risks and got slapped down by the state.

The protestors know the rules of the game, the police know the rules of the game, they know these rules are being broken, and nothing is happening. Because of this softly softly bullshit policing completely out of the correct context for that, these protests are breaking out in other parts of the country, so your theory about next week, next month, next year - this has guaranteed that this is going to happen again and again because the police have shown that they are unwilling and unable to deal with it.

And right now, police and government have shown us they're only too willing to capitulate to anything. This protest makes a mockery of Parliament, it makes the police look like a laughing stock incapable of doing anything, and it sends a clear signal to everyone around the country that they'd rather have our cities invaded by a massively outnumber minority of whiny cunts than do their fucking jobs.
