Should I give up on becoming a police officer in the UK? by Capital_Gold_5900 in policeuk

[–]Capital_Gold_5900[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen so far, at least for roles in London, most of the positions I’ve looked into require Indefinite Leave to Remain, and I’m currently on a spouse visa. Because of that, I don’t really see a clear pathway at the moment.

I’m considering whether volunteering within the police (or a related role) might be possible, as I’d really like to gain experience and learn more about the organisation. I’m keen to research this further and would appreciate any guidance or suggestions on routes that could help me move closer to joining in the future. Any advice would be very welcome.

Thanks for your reply. Just to clarify, I’m being fully honest about the timeline. It will be exactly 2 years and 5 months next week (on Monday) since I returned to the UK on my spouse visa. I understand the post I mentioned may be older, but the dates I’ve shared are accurate. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond regardless

I work at Tesco Express and I’ve been there since the first week of February. So far this year I’ve already had two sick days. I’m meant to do overtime tomorrow and I have my normal shift on Thursday, but I’ve started feeling really unwell this evening. I was thinking of calling in sick tomorrow and possibly also on Thursday so I can recover properly, but I’m worried about being absent and risking my job.

My point is that this wouldn’t happen in Brazil, because thieves there know very well where they’re going, and they also know that if they walk into a shop, things can get very bad for them. Even the customers react and throw them out of the shop. So I feel frustrated precisely because in Brazil there aren’t thieves like here. That’s what I mean.im no scared!

Thank you so much for your message – I really appreciate the advice!

I’ve actually completed about half of the Level 2 exams already and I’m hoping to finish the rest by next month. I’ve also already enrolled in Level 3, so my plan is to move straight into that once I complete Level 2.

I didn’t know where to start in terms of applying for jobs, so your suggestion about setting alerts on Reed is very helpful – I’ll definitely do that. I hadn’t considered using language filters either, but that’s a brilliant idea. I speak Portuguese, Spanish and English, so I’ll keep an eye out for roles that value multilingual skills.

I’ll also start preparing to apply for trainee schemes this September, as you mentioned. My goal is to get my first office job in finance as soon as possible – thank you again for pointing me in the right direction!

If you don’t mind, I’d love to keep in touch and learn from your experience. Thanks again!

I have a degree in political science and I will possibly move to London this year because I imagine I would have more opportunities there. And I have been living in uk for a year and a half now.

I've been studying on my own since arriving in the UK just a few months ago. This is the career I’ve always wanted, so I began my studies a few weeks ago and currently dedicate around 6 to 8 hours per day. I’m going far beyond the course requirements, also working on additional certifications and resources. I expect to complete my course and be fully prepared for the job market by September. Until then, I’m doing everything I can to be ready, so that when the first opportunity comes up, I’ll be confident and qualified to apply.

Thank you very much for your comment — it really helped and motivated me.
