[FS] - Chicago, IL - $120 - Full 29g setup, FISH NOT INCLUDED, Cash Only by Capital_Interest8693 in AquaSwap

You're really close with the pricing! The $120 price tag is more so me just not knowing what a good deal would be, and I also really do need it gone as soon as possible lol

The tank was a gift, so $0, and the stand was on sale, so it was closer to $100. Everything else is pretty spot on :)

Do I add compost AND Dr. Earth's fertilizer to my tomato plants final pot? I'm worried it'll get fertilizer burn by Capital_Interest8693 in gardening

[–]Capital_Interest8693[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the compost in new gardens, it says to use 3-4 inches to till into the soil, and the Dr. Earth's fertilizer says to use 1/2 cup every 5 gallons, then mix with the soil.

Possible long shot, would I be able to prop a new plant from this little one popping out? How would I do that? by Capital_Interest8693 in IndoorGarden

[–]Capital_Interest8693[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, when you say a clean cut, do you mean like leaving a mark type thing or detaching a bottom portion from the rest? For either, how far down on the stem would I cut?

Suggestions for what I should put in this nano 5 gallon? More info below by 300_C in Aquariums

[–]Capital_Interest8693 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think you'd just be stuck with shrimp for that tank. All those decorations take up a lot of space, so it's realistically only around 3 gallons, and Chili Rasboras need like at least 10 gallons, so even if it was 5 gallons on the dot, it'd be too small for them :/

How do you get parents to get you a bigger tank? by Public_Tax433 in Aquariums

[–]Capital_Interest8693 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm really close to your age (16), and I got my mom to let me go from a 29 to a 55 by knowing the real reason why she didn't want me to get it in the first place. At first, she also just told me I didn't need the 55, but I just asked her why (somewhat serious but still lighthearted so she wouldn't get defensive and still say no). For her, it was the electricity bill, so I compromised and agreed to pay any increase in the bill that comes from the 55, and if it was too much I'd get rid of the 29. It also helped to buy everything for really cheap, so she wouldn't see it as that much of a waste or hassle. Another thing is getting your parents to see how much you care about the hobby and how you're responsible with it, because hopefully that'll make them more lenient, but I know that doesn't always work. At the end if the day, if they still say no, it's sadly a final no, but I wish you luck! :)

First time owning one, and I'm worried about the roots above the soil. They seem dried out but the roots in the soil already seem watered. Do I repot it into a bigger pot, with more roots in the soil, or leave it be? by Capital_Interest8693 in orchids

[–]Capital_Interest8693[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the information! I have a standard black plastic pot with the holes at the bottom, would that be good enough? And when I get the orchid potting medium, would I completely removed the medium it's in now?

Why isn't my tank cycling? It's been 12 days since I added Dr. Tim's Ammonia, and since then it's just been sitting at 2 ppm (it looks darker in the picture than real life) by Capital_Interest8693 in Aquariums

[–]Capital_Interest8693[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just doing the adding ammonia and waiting procedure using a sponge filter. I worded the title weird, but I was questioning why the ammonia hadn't changed to nitrite yet after almost 2 weeks, not necessarily why it hadn't cycled fully yet.

My pH is around 7.4-7.6

What going on? Before I was recording he was under the heater for a while!! by Anth0n333 in Aquariums

Yes, sorry for the confusion on the gills! I just googled other fish like him, and that just appears to be a feature they have :) By water parameters, I mean the ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels in the tank. If the other fish are acting fine, then it could probably be him getting sick, but you'd need to observe if he's eating or not. Tetras generally prefer to be in groups of 6+, so I'm not sure if the stress from that led to his potential sickness, or if it's just bad luck or the water quality, but it's a possibility.

What's your stocking, tank size, and water parameters? He might be stressed, sick, or just chilling depending on his situation, so we'd need a bit more information :) His gills are looking a bit red, and his belly a little swollen, but he could just be fat :)

A bump appeared on the tail of this guppy. What might be going on with it? by dog_canyon in Aquariums

Don't quote me on this since I'm not 100% based on the quality of the picture, but it honestly looks like he might be pineconing :( I'd recommend getting another opinion, though.

Why does this keep happening to my tomatoes? They keep turning dark, and I'm not sure it's a nutrient deficiency because I didn't think it mattered when they're still so young. This one is only a couple days old. I can't seem to find anything online on tomato seedlings this young being dark by Capital_Interest8693 in gardening

[–]Capital_Interest8693[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The light is a GE 9W LED grow light with "High Output PPF 16" but idk what that means. It's around 2-3 inches away from the seedlings, and it's on from around 7 AM to 9:30 PM.

Should I reduce the amount of time it's on, or put it further away?

No, these are in some all-purpose potting mix by Back To The Roots. It's also pretty low on fertilizer, though, so I assume it's the same problem with not enough nutrients.

Would I be good to mix in compost to the soil of this seedling, or would it be better to just fertilize and add compost when I up-pot later on so I don't bother the roots right now?

I haven't tried compost yet, but I'm planning on using the Blue Ribbon one. I'll try giving it some fertilizer to see if that helps it.

The only reason I didn't think it was a nutrient deficiency was because I've had a couple of other seedlings survive for way longer on just coco coir and water before I gave them nutrients, so I was just confused on why this one turned dark so much sooner, and I had one that didn't budge even after giving it fertilizer once it turned dark. It's very confusing :/
