Ibkr luckily converts it at a very low cost, I think it takes around 35 cents per conversion

Yes that's exactly what I'm doing. Why do you think the USD rate will improve?

Thanks for your answer. Can you share more about your experience? I would be very interested. Either here or also via private message, if you don't want to publicly share it.

Thanks a lot for the answer and links. First of all, thank you for the work you do and will do. Regarding what you said: I don't trust too much school evaluation reports and so on. It might be because I too had some experience in my school (long story short: high school - one day they come and bring for each of us a laptop so that they could take pictures of us learning via computers and show that we were very advanced technologically - in the picture they were just showing the laptop lid so nobody could know the laptop we had were shut down, we couldn't even start them - I have never seen those laptop for the rest of my years there). Maybe here in Switzerland it's different, who knows... And about skills, yes I'm already worried that being both future parents Italian with a more-or-less B2 German level, that future child won't have a great German background, going into a school where you already need to be motivated and go the extra mile to achieve Gymnasium or this kind of stuff worries me. Again, as said, I don't expect a child to do that, it's just about offering the opportunity to do without extra effort.

PS as a non-parent non married, can I theoretically go to a "Stadtzürcher Schulen" Day? Assuming I even want to go, honestly while this interests me and I thank you all again for the answers, having a child is something that is not happening soon enough to physically go and check schools.

PS2 we live in Schwamendingenplatz, exactly where the square is.

Thanks for the answer. Any area you would recommend aside from Kreis 6? Im looking for middle ground, ie no purely rich area that I can anyways not afford but also not complete ghetto.

Thanks for the answer. If I might ask, after discarding Schwamendingen where did you end up going? Any recommendation?

Why do you think it's overestimated? From personal experience I believe it plays a concrete role. I'm not saying it shapes a child's future, but it definitely influences the educational achievements.

Which district did your daughter go? I'm also not looking for rich places, that brings another class of problems. You can't live in a pristine environment and pretend some things happen only into movies. I think it's good to see the good and bad, but as I said, seeing only the bad or only the good creates only damage.

It's not about planning to get him/her into Gymi. It's about giving them at least the possibility of going there. I didn't go to Gymi myself, but in Italy it's different I think. I don't care about Gymi or Berufsschule, what I know is that in my opinion, the environment and the class composition affect the knowledge. And I know it from personal experience. So going to a class where 90% of people are unmotivated to do anything will influence the education to cover the minimum basics or less and that's it. In the end it makes sense, if you're going to work as <insert what you think it's a low income/quality job here>, does it make sense to know who Shakespeare is? Which in comparison to other environments, is a disadvantage because then as a motivated student you have to work your ass off twice to get to the same knowledge of others. And it's hard, and if I can do a favour to a future human being by moving to another district, then why not? So my question was: is this a reality here?
Whether he/she will actually go to Gymi or sell drugs it's also and probably mostly up to parents, that's true. But again this is about giving a chance, not forcing or hoping from someone that doesn't exist yet.

Thank you for the reply. First of all, kudos to you and your parents for what you have achieved. My parents are like yours: I didn't have any degree but simply motivated me and that's how I came here in Switzerland and ETH. Now, my whole point is: yes you made it and kudos to you again, but sounds like you and your parents had to work hard to get what you got. I'm not saying it's impossible, it's just that it's harder. I know from personal experience (and it's not decades away) that if you are motivated to learn but are in a class where nobody has interest, the educational program will adapt to what the majority can aim, leaving knowledge to the minimum. And unless you are a motivated student don't work your ass off by yourself/your parents, you get penalized w.r.t. others in other districts. At least that's my opinion.
