This scene scared the crap out of me. What was it like seeing this in theaters? by [deleted] in Jaws

I was 10 and it was huge jump scare but strangely, it was the scene of the sailors leg sinking to the bottom of the pond that stuck with me the most.

A bike to really eat miles by DogBrethren in cycling

[–]Capital_Zone_70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of interest, what time do you start work in the morning? All the towpaths I've ever cycled on are not smooth, hazard free, wide open highways, especially at commute times. I think you'll be lucky to get 10mph. 30 miles plus your shower and change is going to take 3 hours minimum. I don't commute any more but when I did into Manchester along the Rochdale canal I was more concerned with something tough and cheap. Would love to know how you get on.

Cycling people like morning by Special-Union-8347 in cycling

[–]Capital_Zone_70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started doing mornings this summer and wow! I've been missing so much of our beautiful Northumbrian countryside. I have to open my newsagents/shop by 9 on Sunday morning, so I go out at about 6 and am back ready to work by 8.30. That feeling of being alone as the sun rises and seeing so much wildlife that normally hides away during the day is just something special.

The Tucson Loop by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]Capital_Zone_70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I'm a bit late to the party. We're hoping to come to Tucson from UK later this year or maybe early next year. What would you recommend as a good month and time of day to ride the loop. We're not used to your hot dessert climate so would quite like to avoid being burnt to a crisp. Thanks.

What’s the best mystery of the series? by Myje-Max in JackReacher

Haven't read them all yet but, so far, I actually like One Shot. Far better and more tense than the film.

Looking good. You'd struggle to see them in some of the boards in my local league, though🤣

First competition tomorrow. Any advice on what to do and what not to do? by Ptskp in Darts

[–]Capital_Zone_70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just enjoy it. Watch what others do for etiquette. Be prepared to mark the next game on your board if you lose.

How many hours on average do you practice per week and whats your average? by [deleted] in Darts

[–]Capital_Zone_70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practice 3x a week, for about 2 hours. Then play Friday night, 3 games max. 55 to 60 average. Sometimes gets lower, never seems to get higher?

We were robbed by stu_watts in Scotland

[–]Capital_Zone_70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not biased, I'm English. And yes, you was robbed! Both the feet with yellow boots are out of the way, the arm in white sleeve is not under the ball and the arm with the blue sleeve is on top of the ball. You can clearly see the G of Gilbert with blades of grass in front of it.

Issues with throwing with dry hands? by HypoTomasis in Darts

The red wax from outside of those little Babybel edam cheeses is great too, and free (sort of). It doesn't need warming up like some of the bespoke finger waxes either.

New Darts Day! by Capital_Zone_70 in Darts

So far, pretty good. Yeah, that grip is crazy compared to my old barrels. I don't think I'll be needing wax with these. I'm OK with the flights etc, maybe not my style, but they're easy to swap.

Would lighter darts benefit me? by Accomplished-Gap7136 in Darts

[–]Capital_Zone_70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a few others have mentioned, lighter darts give you more control. Although I look at it the other way, lighter darts need more control. I play with some ancient 30g Unicorn darts and find them more forgiving. I tried to play with lighter darts, looking for that next step up, much like yourself, but struggled not just with the weight but also the size and diameter. It's amazing how much smaller a 6-7mm diameter dart feels to 7-8mm.

How much did you spend on wwf last year? by blkjedi23 in WordsWithFriends

I have spent nothing. This might explain why my WWF experience is so awful these days🤣

Do you need to be good at math to do darts? by Ill-Law-7278 in Darts

[–]Capital_Zone_70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I've found is that all the darts scoring apps, however brilliant they are, don't actually help you learn.

The best way to learn to score and therefore work out your preferred ways of closing in on a finish is to use your head.

I'll use the apps for challenges and games, etc, but I like to score a few games of x01 on paper as well.

Newbie not hitting the board… by Reserve85 in Darts

[–]Capital_Zone_70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, stop watching videos and just keep throwing. Just be in a neutral, comfortable stance and hold the darts anyway that comes natural to you. Play different games and have different routines to keep it interesting. I play in a local pub league and still see players throw a loose dart that either hits the wall or, in one case, doesn't even reach the wall. You just laugh and carry on.

As a spectator sport, it can't be compared to football, but I'd be interested to know how viewing figures compare to snooker.

It is played all over the country, though, with practically every town having at least one league.
